Go to the motel, go inside the reception office on the bottom floor by the gate.
Ask to rent a room.
Done.

You will get better "houses" later in the game if you help certain factions.

Early on, you will ask yourself this question a lot. Later on, you could become rich by renting them out....

Best thing to do is go places, explore, talk to people, and do quests.....

I don't think any of the safe house is better.....most of them scatter on the edge of Mojave and the other middlish one doesn't have crafting branch nor campfire.

I say 100caps well spend in Novac

yeah i have the Novac motel thing, do i keep that forever then? didnt know whether to stash stuff there or not thanks, and serious you can rent out houses you own?

Yes, you keep the Novac motel room, it's safe to store things in. No you can't rent out your homes. That was a comment about how later in the game you will have several 'homes'.
