Why doesn't anyone tell me that?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:38 am

I have been poking though GECK and I was check out about effect of rounds and then I see Slug: projectile = 1.........

Why isn't this mention in the Pip-boy menu? I didn't use slug because I thought "Oh, it just have a tight spread that make 7 pallet hitting one point".

---------------------RANT OVER--------------------------

And so, I am happy to announce Riot Shotgun with slug is the most powerful gun........

And for those who have been wondering about Coin shots, it have one more projectile (8 instead of 7)

I think the assumption on the part of the developers is that most people who play games like Fallout know what a shotgun slug is. Failing that, the pipboy tells you it's only one projectile. Load with buckshot and it will say say something like "dmg 8x7", meaning, 7 projectiles that hit for 8 damage each. Load with slugs and it will just say "dmg 50" or something.

Keep a good supply of slugs on hand, they can make shotguns extremely powerful versus almost everything. Take the Shotgun Surgeon perk, pick up a hunting shotgun (with choke), and you'll pretty much rule the wasteland as long as you use the right ammo on each type of enemy. :)

I learned that playing Aliens vs Predator 2 years ago. Slugs are for hard targets, such as turrets, Predaliens and combat synthetics :D

they may have assumed that most who play the game would know what a slug is.
but of course not everyone everywhere knows everything so live and learn i say.

It actually does tell you in the Pipboy or Reloading Bench menu... that's how I figured out exactly what it was.

Yeah, I guess they figure most would know, either by having seen one, experience, or just an assumption based on the name.

https://surplusammo.com/images/12g%201.25oz%20SLUG%203in%20Fedx.JPG, it's obvious what they are.

Slug ammo is one of those things that makes the lever action soo good. Lever action + Cowboy + Shotgun surgeon really makes the lever action scale really well.

It seems like people need to learn what a slug is. Lets say a shotgun shell is a 1in by 4in cylinder (I don't know the exact size of a shell, so deal with it) A bit of the firing end is filled with gunpowder, primer, ect. which gives the propulsion to the ammo. With buckshot, the rest of the shell is filled with small metal spheres. With slugs, the rest of the space is filled with a solid metal cylinder.

I know what a slug is, but I just assume Obsidian when lazy about it (i.e. fire 7 pallet at the same spot) when there is no description about it being ONE projectile.....

They also assume that you know what a hollow point, hand load, armor piercing round, magnum load, etc... are as well.
I am just happy somebody put slugs in a game, I just wish I could load the shotties with buckshot, slug, buckshot, slug (or as I call it wound, kill :) )--like I keep mine at home .

It would be awesome on a Caravan Shotgun with Bean bag and Slug as default..........but it gives my a massive headache for imagining how to do it in GECK......

I've got an extensive collection of firearms and experience with them as well so I already knew pretty much everything about ammunition but I can see how a little extra explanation might've been helpful to some people.

Just to show off my weapons:

But there is. When you look at the pipboy's damage stat when the shotgun is loaded with slugs, it very clearly says "DAM: X" like a normal gun rather than "DAM Y*X" like it does for every other shotgun ammo type.

They also assume that you know what a hollow point, hand load, armor piercing round, magnum load, etc... are as well.

Eh, what they actually are isn't really important. You can see the effects they have ingame via the ammo menu, or when you go to load the gun.

My point is where as other ammo have all information on them, you have to load shotgun shells to know what they actually does; nothing huge, but it is an oversight......

And our point is that the information is there, you just have to think the tiniest little bit.

Well, as the old coot in Goodsprings would say, "You aint' from 'round here, are ya boy?".

He would go on to tell you that, "there's only three kinds of slugs you need to worry 'bout. The first is when ya go in that thar Saloon for a "slug" of whiskey. That one feels pretty good until the next mornin'. The second one is when you get in a fight and "slug" somebody in the face. The last one, and the one that hurts the most is the kinda' slug yer talkin' bout. Get it? Dang greenhorns..."

The pipboy actually says it reduces 'spread'.

I don't see how it reduces something that it doesn't have, though....poor choice of term.

The 10mm pistol has "spread," which is reduced by the Laser Sight weapon mod. The Sniper Rifle has "spread." So how is it a poor choice of terms to use a term for the spread that damn near every gun in the game has?

Cuz that makes me think the "Slug" is just 7 pallet bunch together instead of a "Slug"?

Too bad you don't have access to the Internet, where you could look up "slug" and find out what's really going on. Oh wait...

........

I am just saying the tip does info me like it should. I knew what a slug is, just doesn't know the NV ammo system actually overrides weapon projectile, and weapon damage is overall damage divided by projectiles instead of multiply......
