THE Buggiest,. Poorest, Lamest, Saddest, FAIL

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:32 pm

This is just a vanity post. But since MAYBE someone who owns this company or actually cares might just read this I am going to post and hold nothing back.

First the generics: I am 25, Female, JD educated and have played games going back to Mario on Nintendo Classic and PC games going back to when SEGA dominated the market. I play on a Mac Pro booted to Windows Bootcamp XP SP3.

The game has NO Technical issues. It runs fine maxed out and the graphics, when done right, are well done. Sadly they are NOT done right much of the time.

I have seen first timer Mods on Nexus with 5 downloads that work better than this entire game. I do mods and so I know something about the GECK although many many others are far greater than I. Nevertheless, the entire game seems like mesh, texture, and gaps are predominate. Didn't anyone walk though this world before it was released? Half of every KILL shows the vanity cam dropping the critter into the void below the sand falling forever, then the scene cuts back to the game and the bug is sticking half out of the ground shaking violently. THIS WAS VERY RARE IN FO3. It is 50% or MORE in NV. It is also pretty much an immersion KILLER. A Game Killer. Takes me right out of the mood.

Worse Bug: Suddenly my followers kills all JUMP to the Vanity Cam as if I did them and then give me XP. Usually I do not even see a fight coming and I am sneaking when BOOM some gian bug is blowing up in my face with a loud noise and flashing close ups. Scares the F*** out of. Even after a few days of it, I can't let myself get too deep into the game because I am jittery that something is going to pop.

Speaking of bugs and bugs. Weeping Jesus!!! How many INSECTS are in this game? I feel like creating a MOD called "RAID" just to wipe them out. The FO3 wastes were full of people and buildings to explore and dialog. NV is nothing but 62 hours of boarded up empty buildings and 4,011 bugs everywhere.

And these bugs respawn like... well... Bugs.

You people fire all the creative members of the team for this joke of a game? "I dunno what kinda quest to do here, so let's just pack 37 giant wasps again". And again. And again. There are MORE Wasps in NV than Super Mutants in FO3. Wasps, and Scorpions. Now, OK, it IS the desert. I expected to see more Scorpions. But for the love what kind of lame shooter killem all game did you think we wanted to just load it down with non talking kill zones? Where are the serious People? We had MULTIPLE factions and realistic goals with FO3. NV is just walk shoot, walk shoot, walk shoot.

As Private Hudson asked in the movie Aliens: "Sir, is this a stand up fight or another bug hunt"?

Fallout New Vegas is a bug hunt. And the word Bug is definitive of the poor code, bad design and lame excuse for random encounters. Buggy and full of actual bugs to shoot.

My rant continues. Tonight, as I have reached 30th and nearing the end. I have NOT yet ended it once. This is my FIRST play through. If I can make it. I say this because the crashes are more and more. Tonight in 6 hours of play. I have rebooted the entire PC due to hangs of all sorts. Entering, leaving, saving, dialog, pipboy... does not matter WHAT I do. It will crash. It has crashed 4 times in 6 hours. Roughly I can get 1 hour of play. So far no save is corrupted. But I am NEARING 700 saves. And I fear at this rate I will run OUT of the max 1000 allowed.

Sad yet, that the designers put More BUGS in this game than they even allow us for saves.

Truly, without any doubt, this game was rushed. Patched together without any serious testing. You can just tell that people just tossed their parts together and did not check to see if what they did worked with the part someone else did. Hosed. Pathetic.

And I mean that in the I wish I could get my money back sort of way. But the software laws are written such that if you open the wrapper, you keep it or can exchange it if it is physically damaged and can't play.

But if the software company makes a game that is for all purposes, NOT FIT FOR THE PARTICULAR PURPOSE, abit such that they can claim it "works"... well, your options are few and for $50 it would cost THAT just to file a court claim.

Thus, to all my friends, facebook, myspace, family and everyone I can, I will NOT recommend this game. If I can't get my $50, I will damn sure go out of my way to deprive you thieving charlatans of as much as I can.

F! F minus. Fail. Epic Fail beyond fail.

I am now going to bed and will try to figure out where I was before this last crash in a day or two when I feel like I am ready for the abuse to try again.

PS: It would be one thing if you losers made a crappy game and everyone knew it and could avoid it. But FO3 was 10,000 times better than this and we expected IMPROVEMENTS. You have utterly failed to meet the customers expectation and instead took our money while laughing all the way to the bank saying "We made more on this game than the last one and didn't spend 1/10th of the time or effort to make it" HA HA HA

Here is a big finger. You know which one I am holding up.

It is my pinky.

You are not worthy of the center one.

Just two things;

When a companion kills something and it gives experience points to you, that's not a bug. It's intended. It's a change from Fallout:3. The special camera view that comes with that...Yea, you can turn that off. I'm pretty sure that you can make it so it will only give you that cool camera thing if you're the one who made the kill as well.

So you're almost up to 700 saves and you say you're running out of saves eh? So over-write an older save. There's not a limit of 1000 saves, only a limit of 1000 save slots. Like in the old PS1 memory cards, how they only came with 20 (I think) 'blocks' that you could save on. Although you could delete one save 'block' and save where you just deleted.

Although these two points were wrong in your post, the rest is a well thought out rant. But then again, if you're a modder with experience int he GECK who's playing on the PC....

yeah the bugs are pretty bad. still a good game as I can usually fix them via console commands.

I had to restart once tho :(

If i was on console I probably would have had to restart a few times.

Thanks for those two replies: First, constructive? That is easy. Patch it. And do not have the patch ruin it. But being constructive when this product was OBVIOUSLY rushed out to make a buck and patching it later using paying customers as their beta testers is insulting, unprofessional and just wrong. So, there isn't anything constructive I want to say: Other than if this is a publicly traded company I am going to buy a share and then at the next meeting let them know how I feel. If it is privately held. All I can say is shame shame shame and let my friends know: DO NOT BUY. Hit them in their purse strings and see if that gets their attention. This is the worst game they have ever released.

Further: I read on another post that Bethesda didn't actually DO this game. They "let" Obsidian do it. If true, then they are culpable fools or where played for fools and need to SUE Obsidian for damages to their reputation. In any case that is all pie in the sky. For you, for me and for the rest, we are stuck dealing with a 3rd rate game at a first rate price tag. And that is my beef.

I'd pay $15 for this as is. And deal with it. But $50? I expect a far better product. THAT is as constructive as it gets.

Poster #2: Thanks for the clarification on the vanity cam. I will look for that setting and change it pronto. As for 700 saves, I am looking at that UNLIMITED SAVES mod. This game is so buggy I don't just want a go back 20 minutes save. I want to be able to go way way back if need be. And the NEED has been.

I cannot finish the quests for Vault 34 for example. SPOILER BELOW:

---

---

---

I cannot get the pump to turn off and unflood the stairs which will activate the hidden space to save the good dwellers. Oh, I found the key codes, activated sector A and entered them in the security terminal, JUST LIKE WIKI says. But, it doesn't drain the water. The door is still UNAVAILABLE and thus the quest cannot be finished. There is a similar problem with Vault 22, although I was able to trick it using a known work around. Vault 34 remains undone and stuck at the top of my quests list while I prepare for the end quest.

--- As a Modder, very limited, I did open Vault 34 in Geck and took a look. I even made a mod to make the door work, but it remains flooded and I cannot save those folks and end it. I will likely just console end it to get it off my screen.

But it is one of the FEW actual things to do that is NOT just sniping at wasps and scorpions and I can't do it. Sigh.

--EDITED to reply to the Booklickers. I am sure you think the game is "soooo awezome d00d". But the polls here and other forums indicate that well over 90% of the customers are NOT satisfied with the standards of this product. And from a purely business perspective, anything above 5% complaints would be unacceptable anywhere else.

This is not a bug. This is the developers catering to fan feedback from FO3. People wanted the vanity cam to pop up even during non-VATS kills. Obsidian delivered.
And, oh by the way: You can turn this off in the options menu.

I don't know about you but I can't seem to walk a block near New Vegas without a Fiend taking pot shots at me. There are other parts of the Mojave where Bighorners like to trot around. Plus whenever I've wandered off the beaten path into obsure little hideaways, I often run into a lot of gangers. I won't deny that there are a bunch of giant ants and Cazadors as well, but I think you're suffering from selective memory or else you just kept hanging out where all the bug nests are and decided to cry about it instead of going somewhere else.

My rant continues. Tonight, as I have reached 30th and nearing the end.

Jebus Christmas. For a game you profess to hate so damn much, you sure as hell know how to stick it out until the bitter end. Me? If I get bored or frustrated with a GAME I go play another game.

I myself have run into bugs, yes, but nothing that seriously detracted from my own enjoyment of the game. I suggest you go play the perfection you believe Fallout 3 to be - perhaps install another mod to make you feel better. Or make your own.

And I mean that in the I wish I could get my money back sort of way.

If you have the console version, you can go trade it in.

I am now going to bed and will try to figure out where I was before this last crash in a day or two when I feel like I am ready for the abuse to try again.

You can, you know, play another game that doesn't p!ss you off so much? I recommend Fallout 3. :)

Nah. I like the game. Worth the money I paid for it. Since you like to put up with abuse so much, I'm willing to bet you'll buy all the DLC for NV (and, of course, whine about it), followed by whatever sequel follows NV (and of course, whine about the slightest inconveniance in that, too). :violin:

TL;DR Your rant is irrational and insane. Have a nice day.

Pretty much disagree with everything you said.

Did you really think they would only allow you to save your game 1000 times? that is slots.

I don't know how you can say they have failed us since i actually like the game a lot... yes its full of bugs although i haven't ran in to any major bugs. Really there are NO pc games released nowadays without bugs. (That is no excuse for devs to rush games though)

Also, i've only had two crashes since release and both were probably my fault since i kept alt-tabbing out of the game. If you are constantly crashing then its likely your computer at fault.

I strongly disagree with what you just said, but I feel as though I must tell you that Bethesda Game Studios, the development company that made Fallout 3, did not make New Vegas. Bethesda Softworks, the publishing company, published the game, but it was Obsidian that made it.

NO PC games without bugs? Get real. Madden does not crash every hour on the hour like old faithful. And THAT is a BIG selling PC game.

-- To the other posting bootlicker, "If you have console game trade it". Yes, of course. So, which parts of I am playing on a Mac Pro in Bootcamp on the PC version didn't you bother to absorb? I am glad you like it. I wish I would have too. I didn't pay $50 because I wanted to come here and post bad things about it. I wanted to come here and be a FANGRRL. Sadly, I had to join the Fiends.

Fallout New Vegas is still buggy as all hell. 10x worse then Fallout 3. I haven't touched new vegas since it corrupted my save and freezes everytime I load up. Not worth the hassle. I never had 1 issue with Fallout 3.

I understand how frustrating it is when the game keeps crashing. But I think you're overreacting. This for instance;

That is not true at all. I don't know what game you're playing but in MY game the monsters, including scropions and wasps are spaced out quite a bit. Unless of course, you're in Scorpion Gulch! But I'm assuming you're not. What sort of tard would go to a place called Scorpion Gulch then complain at all the scorpions there?

I find the deathclaws more annoying personally as they seem to be always blocking where I want to go.

Is it possible you've overreacted because of the glitches and because you just hate bugs? I'd encourage anyone who posts rants like this to try and get a bit of perspective.

Trust me I probably had a FAR more glitchy and crash-tastic experience than you did.
4 crashes in 6 hours honestly sounds good to me considering that a lot of times (at least for me) I seem to have strange odd occurrences where I crash multiple times (3-5 times) in the span of an hour and then have about 2-3 hours of crash free playing till once again I run into another crashtastic hour.

Is the game glitchy? Hell yeah. Are the glitches annoying as hell? Hell yes and I have to agree that if I crashed/glitched this much and I was playing on a Xbox360 or a PS3 I prob would have found the game unplayable. However because I play on the PC and I have console commands and mods to help me out I can forgive and forget and just get on playing the game despite all of its flaws.

And while I do disgree with some of your fundamental points involving Game play (like having too many insects and stuff and only 1000 save files etc those are personal preferences and no fault of the game developers) I will have to agree that at the very least the devs HAVE to fire their ALL of their damn game testers. Because those guys did a PISS poor job.

For example: Messing up on the mesh and texture of the 10mm weathered pistol when you mod it with a laser is acceptable. They could have just missed testing that and find out about it later and patch it. But on the other hand....

Spoiler alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spoiler

Some glitches that are NOT acceptable and could have easily been found and corrected with even the most basic of tests and patches BEFORE release are:
1. Reloading glitch with ALL single shell reloading guns like Hunting Shotguns, the Cowboy Repeater, Brush Gun, lever-action shotgun etc where the character is rendered helpless for a good 10 seconds after the reloading animation.
2. Brotherhood of Steel glitch (honestly after Fallout 3 where SO many people become huge fans of power-armor and the BoS and you actually let a glitch occur where people can't get power armor and can't join the brotherhood after completing almost the entire quest chain?)
3. Vault 11 glitch: Possibly one of the most well-written, well-staged vaults in all of Fallout History and its ruined because somehow the Turrets in Vault 11 are factioned and chained to Mr.House. Which means killing the turrets will make Mr. House hostile to you and force you to a different quest path altogether.
4. Companion quest glitches: Prob one of the most frustrating set of glitches in this entire game. Its plain fact that a lot of times activating your companion's side quests is harder for people to do than fighting their way through dead wind cavern and killing the legendary deathclaw.
5. Companion disappearing glitch. I can understand that at times companions will get stuck in obstacles and other such annoying areas. However what is NOT acceptable is when your companions get stuck, you loose track of them, and then even when you fast travel, wait, go in and out of doors, or exhaust all possible means by which to find your companions you end up not only loosing that companion permanently but you end up not being able to hire another one to take its place. Is it really THAT hard to program it so that waiting for 1 hour is equivalent to a "moveto player" console command unless the player actually sets the companion in a "wait here" state on the companion wheel?

Just some of my major problems with the game. Of course I was able to fix a lot of these glitches using console commands and mods but the fact that they were present in the first place and are so game breaking is extremely frustrating.

1) Ok, complaints about the numerous bugs (not insects) are valid. There are actually a couple of game breaking ones but as far as I know, there are work arounds for those. Still, it doesn't excuse the poor quality control of the game. I should know, I used to work as a bug finder at a couple of game companies.

2) But I think the complaints about the numerous insects is nothing more than your opinion. You might think there's too many insects but I don't mind them. They don't break the game for me so I find it a non-issue.

3) And then there's your complaint about the 1000 save slots. Others have already explained this to you but I'm not sure you got it or you really do need more than 1000 slots at a time. That's just plain weird and unreasonable.

Its funny, I have not had a single bug or crash yet in FO:NV
Might be my new computer dunno tbh....

Might have been a few gfx glitches but nothing I have taken a notice of, no clipping or wierd animations.
Had way more bugs and crashes in FO:3 meh *shrugs*

I am going on my 3rd play-through right now, and around 80+ hours spend in total.

Return to Fallout: New Vegas
