Pyromaniacs' Confusion

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:31 am

Okay I read the pyromaniac perks requirements and it required explosives. I don't get it since the flamer and incinerator belong to the energy weapons. Should it be in energy weapons or explosives? If anyone is interested maybe they can fix this?

It really should be Energy Weapons. It made no sense being Explosives in Fallout 3, it makes even less in FNV. The problem is though a lot of perks already have Energy Weapons as a requirement.

I think it should be transfered to explosives. The incinerator does fire damage and cause a ball of fire to explode onto the enemy.

I like fire with energy, I just think Pyromaniac should be something like 30 explosive and energy, or either at 60.

Me... I think it should be a Big Gun which deals -fire- damage.

Oh wait... they don't -have- big guns anymore? Whose idea was -that-, anyways? Lame...

Don't forget to add the perk meltdown with flamers as another blunder.

If only for playability the fire weapons really should be under Explosives. For all its difficulty and unfairness, energy weapons stands on its own as a weapon skill and has all the bases covered. Explosives has no weapon that you can use just tooling around the desert, it's all high risk / high reward kabooms that you hope to make happen far away from yourself.

Simple illustration: Make a run through the CQB nighmare known as Vault 34 using each weapon skill.
- Guns? No problem. Shotguns work wonders on ghouls, or use one of the numerous SMGs laying around.
- Energy weapons? More difficult, but an RCW or a multiplas rifle will work.
- Unarmed? Melee? Functionally the same thing. No problems here at all.
- Explosives? .... lay frag mines everywhere? I guess?

(Another suggestion would be to implement the buckshot rounds for 40mm grenade launchers that the US military played around with in Vietnam, for exactly this purpose: give grenadiers something to fight with up close)

Energy Weapons & Explosives both come under Perception, so i guess it doesnt make all that much difference in that respect. But i think the Flamer/Incinerater should come under Explosives imo, just seems to fit better.

I agree flamers/incinerater should be explosive type to give them a short range weapon, it will also fix the meltdown/flamer Oh **** I killed myself problem.

While pulse and plasma grenade/mine is still explosives?

Why ain't Missile Launcher in Guns? it is still a gun for being a tube that ignite a self-propel projectile?

Because the missile explodes. For the plasma and pulse they also explode

Then why should Flamer, which doesn't shoot explosive projectile, be explosive?

The explosion occurs at the end of the barrel/nozzle. You are directing an explosion (fuel, air) at an enemy. I think the Explosive skill is showing that you have the knowledge and ability to keep from blowing yourself up while handling these types of weapons. Guns, are a reflection of your marksmanship and reloading/handling of firearms. Energy is similar to guns but with laser and beams. Flamers do not shoot projectiles nor beams. It's merely a means of pointing an explosion in a safe direction. And grenades, missiles, and other projectile explosives are all weapons where getting close to the target is good enough (you know, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades?).

If your "flame" become hot enough you get plasma, so should plasma be explosive as well?

Perhaps because the base fuel is explosive?

while a battery can explode, it's just stored energy.

Flamer Fuel (or many things that are 'fuel') are explosive.

While heat = energy (or energy release), it's hardly high-tech.. which is what comes to mind with energy-weapons.

So yes, I'd agree with flamers/incinerators falling under the 'explosives' skill. As part of the skill would be knowledge of how to deal with 'default' materials which can take your life when handling them... As opposed to 'insert battery into slot A'

EDIT: Pretty much same as Daerdevil said.

Well, a bullet is shot via an explosive (gunpowder) so maybe all guns should be explosive as well. I think, in the end, we're all just splitting hairs. You have to pick a category for each weapon. For me, it seems like it should be an explosive, just because of the way it functions, but Energy works too.

Actually, the fuel isn't explosive.

It fact, if the flamer works correctly, it shouldn't explode either.

It is just pure ignorant to say EW have to be high tech; in fact FO EW is pretty low tech, but they are powered my nuclear fusion cells.

Considering how we don't have working hand-held laser or plasma-firing guns today as they do in the game (the only one we really have, or close is the Gauss).. I consider those high-tech, yes.

The fire from a Flamer is not explosive. That's simple. It very simply... does not explode. So... Energy Weapons makes sense. Explosives does not make sense.

The Incinerator on the other hand... hell, every time I've been in the sights of one of those things it sure *seems* like [censored] is blowing up around me. Of course, if it's just little fireballs that don't actually... um... *explode*... then it wouldn't make sense to have it as... Explosives.

So far, all the [censored] that actually goes BOOM in this game seems to be correctly governed by the Explosives skill.

I vote Energy Weapons.
