No Hoover Damn By-Pass?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:35 am

I was just wondering around, and to my surprise, I stumbled apon the Hoover Damn. I was shocked that there was no Hoover Damn By-Pass. I wonder why how come they didn't put this in the game? They didn't even pretend that it got destroyed for what ever reason. They could have at least made the bases and put them into ruble. Where I thought the bases of the by-pass would be, they have water coming out. Was this suppose to be the by-pass?

If they do explain why, please don't say anything I don't want it spoiled for me.

So would have you liked to have the by-pass in the game?

You're saying it like we all know what a Hoover Damn By-Pass is. We're not all locals or American.

They don't even mention it, but I'll take a stab at why: Alternate Universe setting, so not every little thing in "our" universe exists in the Fallout universe? As in, same thing that explains thousands of other differences both large and small?

So would have you liked to have the by-pass in the game?

For what purpose? So we could have yet another blocked path across the river that we can't use? Meh.

It's a http://www.hooverdambypass.org/ that bypasses the old road along the top of the Hoover Dam, hence "Dam Bypass."

Oh. Wells looks easy to ignore in canon then. It's not the same universe as ours.

I hope you found the Hoover Dam. The Hoover Damn sounds like it belongs in a Zombie flick starring the corpse of our 31st president.

I am not American either. I was watching a show on the Discovery channel, and they were showing how they were putting the cables across so the by-pass could be made.

So is this "alternate timeline" as someone mentinoed, or Americans developers not even knowing their own geography? :P

The Fallout timeline diverges in the late 50s or early 60s before the semiconductor was invented. Actually I don't believe transistors were invented in the Fallout timeline either so the divergence would have started in the 40s.

Many post-divergence events are part of the Fallout timeline, for example many Elvis references in FONV tap things he did in the 60s. 50s Americana and utopian ideals are also a foundational element of the setting even if the divergence was actually in the late 40s. However the further away you get from the divergence the more things change and the Hoover Bypass was started decades afterward.

It's an alternate reality that http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Divergence from our own.

Although given this question, now I wonder- is this thread a legitimate question, or just an excuse to sneak some snarky comments about the US in? :stare:

Yes it's a legitimate question. I thought it would be so cool to travel on a broken bridge like the by-pass and overlooking the damn. So I was surprised to see the damn, but no by-pass.

So would this mean that there is no CN Tower in Toronto then? None of those buildings in Dubai or Singapore?

It seems earlier than that when you take Sunset Sarsaparilla, Chryslus, and Codac into consideration. The timeline probably diverged in the very late 1800s or really early 1900s.

Dunno, why don't you look in the Fallout games set there and tell us?

Oh wait, there aren't any Fallout games set there!

And until such time as there are Fallout games set there, at which time the developers will make the decision regarding those buildings- we don't, and won't know.

The By-Pass is a recent project in the scope of the Fallout 50's alternative setting. It probably wouldn't have been built in the Fallout universe is my guess. 25 years ago I'm guessing that project wasn't even thought of yet.
