Blueish Caves

This might be just me, but does anyone else like the bluish/purplish toned caves in Fallout: New Vegas? They remind me of the http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/416/caveblue.gif.

See http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/3667/screenshot1tj.png for an example.

It's probably not intentional, but when they're playing some of the original FO underground music à la the Bootjack Cavern (while hunting Geckos!) it feels really Fallouty. :tops:

I liked it, felt more like the cave from the first fallout.
Gave a nice change of scenery other than dark-brown/gray caves every time.

The color variations are nice, but all of the caves are so small. And i love that classic Fallout music that has the air raid siren in it (Music\Fallout1and2\Fallout\MetallicMonks.mp3). What was that used on in Fallout BTW? Perhaps Brothehood of Steel related judging by the name? It fits much better in Fallout 3's DC ruins IMO :)

Yes, that's the music from the original BOS bunker.

I already know I'm in the minority here, but the caves are my least favorite part of the game. I'm glad that most of them are small, because I usually end up running around in circles unless I pull up my local map constantly.

The only thing I hated about Fallout 3 was the fact that I had to keep taking those damned subway tunnels to get everywhere because I was unable to climb a 2 foot pile of rubble at the top of those debris hills.

I had the same frustration with Oblivion's dungeons as well.

I know Bethesda didn't make New Vegas, but it uses the same textures, and there's just something about the way every room looks the same that puts my brain into a short circuit. I don't have that problem with other games, but every game Bethesda has made, though I love every one of them, has driven me batty trying to navigate the mazes.

I also thought of that in a few of the cave locations. "Hey, this really reminds me of Fallout 1!". Especially when the "Caves" track is playing.

Speaking of music though, I think it was really disappointing that they used the music from FO3 in the Brotherhood bunker. Not only is that piece of music quite boring but it would seem to me that it would make more sense to have the music associated with the Western Brotherhood in a location where you find... well, the Western Brotherhood!

I was thinking that as well. They used Metallic Monks for the freaking gate into the New Vegas Strip, but not for the Hidden Valley bunker? I'm also wondering why Followers Credo wasn't used for the Old Mormon Fort. I actually associate that piece more with the Enclave than I do the Followers, but it was their theme in the first game.

The ambient music placement could have been better in general. I've found that the developers placed Fallout 1/2 music in places where it didn't really fit the mood. The music from The Glow was used for the Lucky 38 suite for example. Now I don't think I need to point out how music crafted specifically for a dark, irradiated dungeon doesn't exactly go well with the ambiance of a luxurious apartment suite. It's comparable to throwing dark metal in the background of a Hello Kitty episode.
