Can anybody help/direct me somewhere so I can make myself a computer that will be able to play Fallout: New Vegas?

Might be best to ask a mod to move this thread to the Community Discussion board, since there are some really helpful and informative people there.

I got a component guide that can be extremely useful, but I am not sure I can post it. I'll ask a mod, and then I'll post it here.

Just as some random data, my computer is a 2ghz Core2 Duo processor, with 4gybtes of memory, and running 64 bit Vista. My video card is a Geforce 9600. This machine is now several generations old, and you could buy something like it very cheaply. And it still handles F:NV just fine at 1440x900, high detail level. The game does not require a supercomputer to run, unless you get silly and want it to run at 2000 by whatever pixels with 8x anti-aliasing and all the eye candy turned up to 11.

You have to remember that F:NV was designed to play smoothly on the Xbox 360, which is now about 5 years old. PC technology constantly evolves, console technology moves in jumps.

I think you would be a very very brave person at the moment to make a rig anticipating playing this specific game. When all platforms are experiencing problems, I'd really wait and see if any patches fix the workability of the programme first.

I'm running fine, when it's running fine, on a 2.4 Ghz duo core, with 6 Gig of RAM, using a Geforce 9600. Anti-Aliasing is on 8, with 6 pre-rendered frames, trilinear filtering is on, and most of the other check boxes on the card are ticked. That rig has not had a problem on any new release I've dealt with over the last 18 months...except for FNV.

Not saying don't, just saying tread warily...

I would say "any dual-core or better PC made in the last 2 years", combined with a more modern GPU like an 8800GT, a 9600 or a GTX 460 (my personal favorite to replace the 8800GT 512MB).

(With my GTX 460 1GB, I run at 1600x900, and the only thing that kills my frame rate is a lot of NPCs on the screen at once. More then about 18-24 and I drop below 30fps. Unfortunately, the game engine just isn't tunable so that you can turn down distant NPCs rather then just fading them out entirely.)

I updated my rig just for FONV.

i7930, 8gb HyperX, ATI 5870 - all glued together with 64 Win7. A pretty safe setup that should give you no problems if you're interested.

Since I haven't gotten a reply from a mod, I'll just post a build.

First time I've done a build. I'm sure I [censored] up somewhere, and that someone else can probably make it better for cheaper. Anyway, with shipping and handling and tax, it comes to $874.98.

Like I said, the build probably needs some work, but I think it's on okay start.
