Weren't there supposed to be courier missions?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:34 am

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure before New Vegas came out, one of the devs said the Mojave Express could hire the player for delivery quests, as in, delivering things that aren't the Platinum Chip.

However, as far as I can tell, nothing of the sort actually exists in-game.

Am I imagining things, or what?

Yes your imagining things, what your probably remembering is them saying you could have the Mojave Express deliver items for you.

One of the first notes you get is the courier delivery (6 of 6) .

I don't know about the rest of you, but I only ever found the one called (4 of 6) after that, and that was directly outside of the courier office.

Considering the story that gets told to you about the courier who was scared to take your job, this definitely seems like an unfinished piece of the game.

Who knows, though. Maybe those numbers are just there for kicks.

If you are remembering correctly, it wouldn't surprise me if it got cut from the game once the developers realized how much fast travel would trivialize quests like those.

Cut content?
Maybe it was unfinished by the time the game was released and they had to cut it.

I don't know about quests but you get another note from a dead courier in Primm and a wrecked mess that is oddly directed towards you.

I've seen speculation that this might be part of some future DLC, I don't know, know.

I don't recall any mention of courier missions, though, so I'm guessing you're just imagining things, though I guess it could also have been something that the designers had originally meant to add, but decided to scrap the idea for one reason or another.

As far as the numbered delivery order,
Spoiler
I recall that the player is told that Six couriers were hired to deliver different items, which explain the "6 of 6" thing.
Though I've only every found 4 of 6, and I assume the others just don't exist in the game. I don't worry about it too much, it seems to me like going into any more detail on the matter isn't really important to the story.

I would say that one part does seem important, the courier that turned down the job so that you could take it. Made it sound like the guy new you would get shot and wanted it to happen. I wouldn't mind meeting the guy and learning just what that is all about but for the overall game, it isn't necessary. It is more like pointless dribble added in that leads to nothing at this point. Kind of disappointing.

Personally, I'd say after getting shot in head and somehow surviving, I'd give up being a courier, or if it was a passion of mine ( WHY would it be though? I'd be doing it for the money ) I'd continue but pack some serious heat with me. Also, there are a few quests in game that have you deliver things, I won't give any away though. Somebody is probably going to make a mod that adds in this sort of quest though.

I think good, simple Fed-Ex quests with a temporary EnableFastTravel 0 would solve the fast travel and such, and just have the player carry between the drop boxes they use themselves. I'm game for courier quests. And what bothers me is that House acts like he may have observed you for a while before you got shot, so...I want to know a little bit more about the courier's supposed past.

I think it was intended to be in the game but the usually trivial nature of Fed-Ex quests mixed with time constraints probably about killed that.

I'd be in the same boat if I had been waiting for that same chip I had PAID for 200 years ago.

And judging by Mr. House, who before the war 'was a billionare 30 times over' says he paid dearly for that chip, theres no way in hell that chip was just a couple hundred dollars to print. I can only imagine the zeros in the price of the chip. :bonk:

Yeah, it was said in one of the developer diaries. He said it would be a way to "make some money on the side".

Yeah, he definitely said they'd be in. Perhaps he was referring to the jobs you can do that involve delivering things (like delivering the invoice in "You Can Depend on Me")
