Is it any good? You'd think it'd be craftable.

it was going to be but the recipe was removed, presumably for balance reasons to make it harder to get at low levels.

If you have high crit it's very good, since it multiplies your crit chance by 3. So for example: Ninja 15%, 10% from luck, 3% from Trait, 5% from finesse = 33% crit, x3 = 99% crit. Add in better crits so you're critting every hit for 50% more crit damage.

Before you get Ninja you can still get extremely high (69%) crit using Boone's hat.

It is worth mentioning that one of the main reason as to why one would use the Mantis Gauntlet is that it ignores DT. From what I read, however, that it is bugged and the DT is still in effect when using the Mantis Gauntlet.

Yes, DT is still taken into effect. It's still my most used weapon on my unarmed character. Pretty quick weapon and looks cool.

I'm curious if the damage output for this weapon would exceed that of the ballistic fist when you factor in the 3X critical chance.

Pushy>All
Although the Mantis Gauntlet does ignore DT, well it should when the patch comes out.

It depends on how much crit you have, if you took Heavy Handed or not, if you have Better Criticals.

I think the max possible DPS of the Mantis (100% crit and Better criticals) is higher than from the Ballistic Fist though (max crit 38%). But I'm not sure of the exact formula of how Better Criticals applies, or if the Crit bonus damage scales in other ways, etc etc. Also vs enemies with more than 15 DT (so Piercing Strike no longer negates it all) the slower but harder hitting Ballistic fist gets a leg up.

Obviously if the Mantis is fixed to actually ignore DT that is a huge bonus, plus you get to save a valuable perk (I've found there are a lot more "must have" perks when playing as a melee character).

The Great Khan Armorer sell it, as does the NCR Quartermaster at Hoover Dam.

I doubt that the bug will be fixed. It's been there since the Deathclaw Gauntlet in FO3.

The bug shouldn't be fixed. Ignoring DT is way too powerful for a weapon that costs like 100 caps.

Soooo...maybe make it cost more instead then?

Even if it ignored DT the weapon wouldn't be nearly as good as most of the guns in the game.
