Why does nobody talk to one another?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:35 pm

Albeit not EXTREMELY important, but don't you think it's kinda stupid how no NPC's ever really talk to one another? I remember in FO3, how they would communicate each other loads, that woman talking to the ghoul in Megaton, raiders talking to each other whilst you have a Stealth Boy equipped etc. Why is this not implemented in FNV? Don't get me wrong, It's an amazing game, just a little weird is all.

Agree. Not major, but it actually stood out to me while playing. For having a ton more dialog, there aint much talking going on.

Actually, I've seen a few NPCs talking to each other, but the number is barely noticeable compared to Oblivion or Fallout 3.

Oh God, I completely forgot about Oblivion. I love that game. I mean it's too late now, but kinda stupid how only a few seem to, and it's usually when you trigger something. E.g. telling an NCR member to confront another or something. I felt as if the world revolves around you more in FNV, I don't like it this way as much. In FO3, sure, people grew to know you, but you weren't the centre of attention.

I've also seen npc's talking to each other...but it's not often. And it's less talking to each other than them talking at each other, if that makes sense. I don't think I personally want npc's yakking at each other in the background all the time, it'd be too much audio overload for me, but a little more would have been more atmospheric, I agree.

One thing I did notice is that sometimes they stop to stare. That is, I once saw Manny & Boone walk past each other to/away from the dino, and Manny paused, turned his head and stared at the back of Boone's head for several seconds. Then later it was the opposite, w/Boone giving Manny an evil eye. It gave a nice touch of "they're not comfy friends anymore." But sadly I know that was just the AI's default "sometimes stare at active npc's within a radius", not specific scripting for the encounter. Most of the time npc's would also stare at a passing brahmin with just as much interest. Ah well.

It's the community's fault. All those times in Oblivion that we complained that the NPCs never shut up about the mudcrabs (filthy creatures) have paid off: now the NPCs barely talk to eachother. :D

But yes I agree. There's not much... "life" going on in most places.

Yeh, Fallout 3 felt kinda lively because of the talk, but In NV nobody ever talks. would be fin to see NCR soldiers talking about the legion or brotherhood or vice versa. Its these little things which make a big difference in immersion...

Companions always make the NCR troopers go "Patrolling at the Mojave..."

So I would say this is good enough.

I found myself annoyed whenever I went to the Rivet City marketplace. It's something I haven't noticed and don't really care about to begin with.

I definitely liked how different factions would sometimes react to different companions. Nice touch.

I loved that as well Rex in Gomarrah, Boone in any NCR or Khan camp, and ED-E in the Fiend vault is allways worth the time.

I got freaked out once though, I visited vault 21 and spent the night with Sarrah in between which Veronica and she started to face down each other as if some dialogue was going to take place but failed.

Take Veronica to the BoS bunker, she always stops to talk to everyone in the place. On our way to the Elder's office she must have pvssyd with a dozen people or more, she just wouldn't shut up lol :whisper: . Although I'll admit there's less npc pvssyr then in FO3. Too bad, some of the things you could overhear were just straight up funny. (I miss lines like the super mutant saying he was dreaming of a women, no wait,... maybe he was a women. LMAO :P )

My companions regularly stop to talk to people. I once had a woman stop Rex to talk to him.
