Addiction Char

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:52 pm

Anyone else tried playing through with a char addicted to a chem (or two....) ?
Obviously I mean not using fixer, or doctors, and trying to live with it so to speak.
I have a crazed unarmed char named 'pump' addicted to Buffout. He's Been lucky on other chems so far......................

You know, I really haven't noticed the actual side effects of chem addiction, or more specifically, withdrawal. What is it?

Stat loss.

what he said, but depends on the chem.
Eg Buffout withdrawal is -1 to Str and End.

chem addict character is useless because there are maybe 5-6 encounters in the game even on VH/HC where you need the benefit of chems. trust me, i tried it... you end up with a terrible feeling of "all dressed up, but nowhere to go.."

you're a demi-god with drugs, especially rocket, 2x action boy, and math wrath. (hello VATS) or even better, super sledge / blade of the east.

the super turbo is just like... amazingly fun. personally i had to download special difficulty enhancing mods to make the game feel even somewhat balanced. the truth is theres more drugs than freakin fresh water in the wasteland and i was rarely if ever feeling the penalties of addiction.

if you keep using addictive chems 25 times, you get the Day Tripper challenge perk, also if you use Turbo 20 times you get a perk that makes Turbo last longer.

Well I mainly used it as an extra thing to think about on hardcoe mode, SPECIAL'ing the char so I would need the effects of chems (in this case as I said, Buffout) to make the char get the most out his main skills.

Fixer is permanant in my game (perhaps a glitch?). First time I used it, I stopped by the Med clinic (assuming the fixer was temp) and the doc told me I wasn't addicted to anything.

Now I'm confuzzled.

Fixer is only temporary.

Not in my game. >.>
I used enough to become 'addicted' fairly early on my first time (before I realized using those things would do so) and I took a fixer...it claimed it was temporary but I went through the entire rest of the game & I still had no need to take another 'fixer'.

Were you still under effect of Fixer when you talked to him?

How long is a fixer supposed to last before it wears off & you need to take it again? I guess I just figured that since I didn't take any more chems, I was cured forever!...or that it was bugged. :D

No. My addiction never came back. Add to that I have gotten addicted at least two more times since, and Fixer again did the trick.

I could complain that this "makes it too easy" but really I kind of like it. Traveling clear across the map (I'm not a big fast travel guy) to go see a doctor is less of a "challenge" and more of an annoying chore.

That said if the bug (?) gets fixed, my glass will still be half full because I'll just play the "immersive" card. :D

In one of my RP plays I had a char that was addicted to every drug in existence within the fallout universe. He had a luck of 10 and I used a mod that made casinos forget about you after a while so he could afford it. Being high on Jet Phsyco and MedX 24/7 made the game very interesting

My file was sober..until I ran into a particularly nasty group of cazadors and wound up getting addicted to jet and psycho and turbo and buffout and whiskey...The stat decreases don't bother me much and it lets taking down a group of deathclaws with a golf club possible

I think it would be cool if the game made it harder to become addicted and harder to cure addiction. As it is now, though, I tend to use Fixer when I have it (works permanently for me, Xbox 360) or hoof it to a doctor when I don't have any Fixer. (I don't like using Fast Travel to go to a doctor specifically to get cured, though, as it's a boring chore of sitting through loading screens, so I tend to wait until one is along my walking route.)

Fixer has two effects: AddictionRemoval and TemporaryAddictionRemoval. I just changed it by removing the AddictionRemoval to see if that fixes the Fixer.

With luck, that will be in the new patch.
