24 or something like that, I wasn't paying attention to my level while I was playing and it surprised me that I was at level 24.

I've completed 1 playthrough, currently on my second.

I gained my 30th level during the final battle. This was deliberate though, as I set in motion the final sequence when I saw that I was level 29, looked at the explored locations on the map, and decided I didn't want to slug through any more quests. I was fine with this.

It's really down to playstyle though. It's really simple to finish the game at a low level and it's equally as simple to cap out before you've finished. It matters about whether you explore a lot and do many sidequests or if you stick to the main quest line more. No one's preference is more correct than someone else's.

A way to please both camps would be to add a game beginning option for level lengths, where you can stick to vanilla level amounts or choose to increase the amount of exp it takes to gain level by x%.

I finished at the max level for all my characters, EXCEPT the one I used for my Caesar's Legion playthrough, who was only level 17 by the end. The reason for that is that I generally can't stand the Legion, but I still wanted to see what the ending was like out of curiosity's sake - so I rushed through it as fast as I could, thereby minimizing the amount of time I'd have to spend dealing with them.

24th level for first character. Sided with Yes Man. My character was pretty much fed up with most of the factions by the end, so he didn't want to do more quests for any of them.

I'm assuming 30, since I haven't touched the strip or started the process of choosing sides yet and am level 25. Still too busy investigating.

Lvl 25 the first time (NCR) and lvl 23 (House) 2nd time both Very Hard. I didn't do nearly "everything" either time but did quite a fair amount.

Yes I still play but I'm using a couple mods now (my own slower/harder leveling plus someone else's multiple companions).
I don't care too much about the other endings so I haven't done another complete playthrough. Everything that you can do BEFORE the main questline really heads towards the finish line is what I find the most entertaining. Soon as I get to the Strip my interest flags quickly and it isn't long before I start a new character. But recruiting companions, all the side quests/random fighting outside of the Strip etc...for some reason I could do those over and over and over.

First character was at 23 with a slower leveling mod. Current character is at 26 with an even slower leveling mod and have barely scratched the surface of the main quest. Time to slow it down some more

I cut all reward iXPReward by half and set iXPBumpBase to 350. I've done maybe 80% of the non-Strip/side quests, have every location on my map, and I'm lvl 16, am guessing it'd put me at lvl 23-24 or so for doing the entire game (not just main quest path). It could still be a little slower but it's felt pretty good for leveling speed.

The BumpBase is better overall because it increases amount of xp needed to gain the next level. Between the two it can slow down things to a literal crawl if you want. I once set the BumpBase high enough it would've kept me at lvl2 for the entire game, but that was a bit much, lol.

I just finished my first playthrough today, I finished at level 23, I didn't really do all of the side quests, or explore as much as I did in Fallout 3 because my first run through was me just testing the game out and getting used to the new features.

Once the patch comes out I will start my second playthrough in which I will do a lot more exploration, a lot less fast travelling and be a lot more assertive in the game (in this run through I tried to keep on everyones good side until towards the end of the main quest).

I'm happy that the cap is getting extended with the DLC though :)

I am not sure how is NV level too fast; if anything, it is slower than FO3.

I guess it is still MK7 speed compare to other RPG.....but I am happy to abuse it.....

You all must not be doing many side quests or exploring at all - I always get to level 30 well before end of game, long before end of game. If there was no level cap, I'm sure I could hit level 40, possibly higher

There's no reason to explore a lot of times for me since enemies at southern half of the map are too easy and the northern half have few locations with enemies that pose a real challenge.
And there can be loooong stretches of nothing and once I actually find a place it might not be of much use anyway.
So exploring isn't something I do in New Vegas since it's really really awful IMO.
And I don't do every single sidequest on every character, I switch it up, sometimes I help FotA and sometimes I don't.

I reached Level 30 by doing the entire lower part of the map and maybe 2/5 of the northern half. Then I got bored and rushed a finish.

First Run 30
Second Run 30
Third Run 30
If you do most of the side-quests you should reach level 30 no problem.

I would've hit lvl 30 long before without doing "everything" in the game because I tended to kill enemies more than once as I went back & forth (the first time, when I had no clue). All these things giving 50xp a pop + huge quest xp rewards. heh. But toward the end I gave up exploring and just rushed to see the ending.

My attempts to slow leveling have to do with trying to keep the combat difficulty harder for longer. I don't care if the game has a lvl cap or not, watching my lvl increase doesn't concern me much personally. But I've discovered combat difficulty is about 20% clvl (raising skills etc) and about 80% how damage/defense works. You can be lvl 5 and hit Vegas and grab the higher lvl freebie weapons and still kill everything w/out too much issue. The game is just not currently designed to be (what I consider) truly difficult combat.

Please understand I'm not panning the game for this...not everyone wants a hard combat game. I guess I'm "hardcoe" in this area or something. And that's why I bought for PC. :)

Took a bit of advice and upped the iXPBumpBase to 300 and further lowered the iXPReward, so far so good.

BTW I was wrong about which level I had left off on, now at level 23, not 26.

27. By then I was so sick of the boring exploration that I just wanted it to end.
