Reavers

Well, one can argue about whether it was the best idea, but I don't think it was pointless: by the time you get to level 30 in FO3 you're God of the Wastes; some sort of challenge was needed because of the extended level cap.

Having massive hit points didn't make them a challenge just annoying. They could have halved their hit points, made them immune to knock down and poison and just further upped their attacks even further. Maybe give them a knock down effect. That would have made reavers a challenge. Instead of a bullet sponge eliminate the cheap shots [knock down and leg crippling from the dart gun] and give them a cheap shot attack.

I got the bright idea to try and snipe one with a scoped Varmint rifle at level 4 west of Primm. It ran over and kicked my ass in a quick hurry. Caravan Shotgun shooting magnum buck shot only made it madder.

I actually love that in FONV i mean there is nothing like shooting something in the face and it turns and looks at you with that "oh really" look then sends you to the reload button. A sore ass and some new found respect is never a bad thing from a video game, it keeps the player on thier toes.

Yeah Reavers got watered down although they are hardly weak by any counts. They still have about 200 + health so its going to take a couple shots to kill it unless you sneak kill it.

Actually I had a long rant on FO3 about reavers but in FONV I've only seen (1) at level 22. In the sewers around NV I was sneaking (100+) and opened a door to find a crowd of ghouls (4 roamers and reaver). I had a fully repaired sniper rifle (with silencer) and squeezed off a panic shot that took the reaver's head off instantly. The others didn't last long. Freaked me out bigtime though.

Reavers and Albino Scorpions in FO3, on Very Hard level, were nearly immortal. They required nukes and the Fire Lance to kill them, after many hits. It was beyond ridiculous.

At least that mistake was not repeated here. The mistake being, not balancing the game at Very Hard level in a sane way.

Fairly early on in the game I spotted a few reavers wandering about, and naturally gave them a wide berth.

Well, having levelled up somewhat and carrying a better selection of peashooters, I decided to have a go at one of them, maybe whittle it down bit by bit. What did I discover? These reavers are wimps, limp-wristed shadows of their Fallout 3 selves.

What a spectacularly pointless change! Reavers were my favourite enemy in FO3 precisely because they were tough and you could expect a fight from them. If the creators of this game thought they were overpowered, then why not just leave them out? Put a few roamers in there instead.

Very disappointing. I was gearing myself up for some fun and ended up with a walkover.

I discovered this as well and wondered about it. I saw Boone shoot a Reaver in the head and bam it was dead. Then I tried it and same thing. Very disappointing. Reavers were one of my biggest fears and biggest challenges in Fallout 3 next to Albino Radscorpions.

Yea I found 2 at the motel hell and sat ontop of a cliff shooting at them with ed-e and veronica. I finally killed them after a bit. (they hid)really didn't want to go down there and find out they were as bad a fallout 3. funny thing was I shot one in the head and it dropped. that kinda made me go huh? I was using a varmint with scope and silencer.

I remember my first New Vegas Reaver kill:

I was level 30, I had noticed a pack of Reavers, thought to myself "Hey, these guys are dangerous! I better get jacked up on a bunch of drugs to combat these monstrosities!"

So, after getting jacked up on basically every drug in my possession, I went all super slo-mo VATS on their asses.

Suffice to say, I was greatly surprised and hugely disappointed when the bad asses of yesteryear fell to my relentless attacks in the form of a silenced 10mm Pistol.

hmmm, if reavers are ghouls what are those dudes that horde new technology called ? Thought they were called reavers ? The ones in FO:tactics ?

Was getting myself all excited thinking they were in NV but I just hadn't found them yet :(

It's a pointless change because the tiers were already established: ghoul, roamer, glowing, reaver. All they did was change the order. I simply ask for consistency. If you're going to put reavers in the game - if - then at least make them a challenge as they were in FO3.

Is this small detail really worth a full complaint thread? Seriously.

I kinda wish Reavers still threw grenades like in Broken Steel.

But not that nonsensical radioactive goo (WTF was it, and where did it come from?), but actual frag grenades, or hell, even spears. That'd be cool.

I mean, the goo was an actual (unplayable) grenade, so they could theoretically use other throwing weapons.

They were once citizens of the Alliance until a fateful experiment designed to make people docile...

Oh wait, wrong storyline...

They are throwing radioactive poo at you just like the monkeys do at the zoo.
