Freakin HUGE!

Everywhere I turn there is a line of quests it seems, always stuff going on - I don't remember ever feeling this way about Fallout 3.

Is it just me or are other people getting the awesome feeling of brain overload from the expanse of this place?

I love it

It's good to have so many quests, but I do find myself clicking "See you later" or "Goodby" when I smell certain quests coming on, some of them can be a little tedious.

I always have to do quests in little bunches, then relieve myself of the 'do this do that' quest-overload by letting myself just run around the world killing respawns. Helps the pocketbook too.

Styles' avatar when I got the Platinum Chip.

Otherwise it is good amount of quest for kicking, sometimes even get you to go back, and only have time to explore when I start doing vendor circuits.

Too few of the quests hold my interest, though, and too few good locations are there for some decent exploration.

There are definitely a lot of optional quests, and they do get a bit tedious if you try to do ALL of them.

There's no reason to do all of them, do the ones that fit your character and save the rest of them for replays. I'm on my fourth playthrough and still doing plenty of new stuff.

Game is definitely massive.

There's something everywhere you step. But, the map is only about 50% as big as it seems... a LOT of it is not accessible. They artificially made it more dense by making less land area. I don't mind the borders but the invisible walls on mountains in the middle of the map is just laziness.

Considering most of the marked quests update more than finish.
People / places you never noticed were named can be found on later different playthroughs.
That and the fact there are multipule ways to complete them on top of all the different kill metheods, and all the unmarked ones as well...
The game is ...

Fricking massive!!!!

just because the area is square on your pip boy map, that doesn't mean its area that was suppose to be part of the playing area, the map area is more oval type shape not square, thats only how it looks on the pip boy, the area is still huge, easily as much area as FO3 even though it used a square playing area the overall playing area is about the same, the "square" map in the pip boy is larger than the fallout 3 area, its just they made the playing area oval so not sure why you can't figure that out, if they wanted the playing area square they would of made it square, the playing area is not the same geographical shape as FO3, so don't try to compare and say oh boy they're both square but in new vegas you can't go in the area.

For some reason I feel like I'm in a big backyard, contained by unpassable mountains and invisible walls on the edges. It all just doesn't seem as massive as FO3...which seemed more diverse in landscape. Not to mention the huge underground and interior portions of fo3. It doesn't make it a better game, but with only 60 hrs in, I saw about 90 percent of new vegas so far.

The play area seems smaller. There is a hilltop near Primm Pass, and from it, you can see all of the southern half of the map, and you can see how close the towns really are to each other. They seem further away because we always have to walk around hills, etc. There is nothing West of the ridge line at Goodsprings. You can get through there and although the ground is rendered, there is nothing...no mobs, no structures, etc. That is, an awful lot of the pipboy map is unplayable.
