Is the game worth playing yet?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 10:21 am

I bought the game on release but decided to put it to one side, as there were a lot of problems reported, although my platform (360) seemed to be the most stable. I'm considering playing the game but have a couple of questions.

I think the main problem mentioned with the 360 version was that there was a problem with the save game files, which might have been linked to the DLC pack that came with the game. Has this been fixed or is it best not to download the pack, I'm not too bothered about the contents of the DLC or does the problem still exist regardless of the DLC?

I'm really not interested in playing Caravan, as that sort of thing holds no interest for me. Is it essential to play the card game, e.g. leads to a quest or is part of a quest or can lead to some good gear etc?

Not essential, but a very easy way to make a good amount of caps early on in the game, around 1000 before u even leave the starting area... as long as your good.

It's worth playing, and then some.

Some people just like to think that just because their system experiences some bugs, then it must be a universal problem. Remember, nerd rage makes things out to be about a million times worse than it actually is. Try playing for yourself, and if its "unplayable", so be it.

I wouldn't bother with it since the so-called "patch" that they haven announced on several occasions has proven to be vaporware. Check back somewhere next year for an update and keep playing well-playable games that have been released in the last six weeks . . .

Go to the tech problems forum for the 360 and read over 100 of these "nerd ragers" who put 40+ hours into a game that got corrupted and they couldn't load any save file. Some of them, who must have the patience of saints, even tried to start a new game and it happened again. If you want to risk wasting a lot of time, then go for it. But the dlc corruption problem happens indiscriminately, it doesn't matter if you have dlc or not and this game hasn't been patched since 1 day after release back in mid october, so it's in the same shambled state as it's been in.

Thanks for the responce, it would really piss me off if I got a few hours into the game and then there was a major problem. Guess I'll hold on a bit longer for the patch but it does seem a long time to come up with one. I think the game came out about 6 weeks ago.

Personally I don't think they should even be mentioning DLC until the game is patched. It proves that they're putting more effort into the DLC than fixing the game, this would explain why the game still hasn't been patched since its release a few weeks ago.

Like people said before me, your forgeting that this only happens to some people. I have 200 hours on the game and no game breaking glitches have happened to me at all and im on the 360. You wont know if it will happen to you until you put it in.

The game is worth playing the bugs are minor if your careful. Read the Wiki on New Vegas bugs so that you can be prepared, and make sure that you save outside as thats something that I'm going to start doing for New Vegas, Oblivion, and Fallout 3. By saving outside you don't need to worry about getting your game file svck in a building example the Novac Hotel Room.

I Played New Vegas 7 hours yesterday on the 360 and I only had one annoying bug, you may not think its annoying but I do. The Alpha Male Deathclaw just froze and wouldn't move nor take any damage I wanted to kill it but it also allowed me to get the Deathclaw eggs at the quarry with no problems. :celebration:

In case you haven't noticed, every game, ever has bugs, and has tech support forums just as busy, if not moreso than the New Vegas one.

By nerd rage, I mean the people who hijack every single thread with their rage and blow everything completely out of proportion. There's people like that in the tech support forum too, but for the most part I'd say that forum is full of level-headed people who are doing the right thing.

A bit overly dramatic don't you think? I bet, a friendly bet, the patch will be out by the end of next week. At the very latest, the same day the DLC for the 360 goes live. (The 18th.)

Indeed, especially with a game of this scope!

From what I can tell, the game's stable. I'm playing on 360 and so far the only thing that's been bugging me is that it crashes at least once every other day, but all you have to do is turn it off and back on again, and if you have autosaves enabled there should be absolutely no problem.

Caravan isn't required in the game, but it can get you easy caps if you know how to play.

If you held out this long then just wait another week or so for what should have been the final product.

For those on the PC version, the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35146 mod auto saves every 10 minutes. This can be a life saver for people who are not in the habit of saving often.

P.S.

As to the topic at hand it was always worth playing for me. (PC version.) I did have one round of save corruption losing 6 saves and about 20 minutes of game play. I save often so it was not a big deal for me. I've had some issues with performance but the 10.11 drivers and last game patch seems to have solved that. (Minus the frame skip/hitching.) I no longer need the dll file. (I do have my CPU OC'd from 2.83Ghz to 3.83Ghz and it nets me 15+ FPS.)

My friend plays the PS3 version and 200+ hours in, has started to get system lock ups. Thankfully he took my advice and he also saves often. He still loves the game.

It's the best RPG (or top two) in the past decade. Of course it's worth playing.
