For Fallout 3 there was a mod for that, and a playable ghoul race mod which are already available for NV too. Personally i say :yuck:

No, but it'd be pretty sweet in future Fallout games to be able to choose your...well...species at the start of the game. You can either be Super Mutant, Ghoul or Human. Each race would have their own strengths and weaknesses, and there would be certain new dialogue options opened up (kind of like in NV, with dialogue based on perks, skills or SPECIAL scores).

Nah, Fallout is about humans and humanity in a post apocalyptic world. But you know that there is a Fallout MMORPG in deveploment? (Or wast it shut down already?)

Race selection is more of a TES thing (though i always end up with a khajiit :D).

It can't happen and I, for one, am happy about that.

Incidentally, there's a location in NV where you can find out about... something like this. And it's pretty damned funny.

It would be nice if you could choose to play as a post human race.. But I don't see that happening in the games as they are. The biggest problem is the extra time, expense and data storage, especially with spoken dialog. Unlike say, Oblivion, where races are treated more or less equally, ghouls and super mutants are treated very differently than humans are. From minor things like people being rude or frightened to you when you talk to them, to potentially much larger things such as the fact that feral ghouls don't attack non-feral ghouls on sight. Which would significantly change some areas of the game.

So a lot of dialog would have to be recorded multiple times to take these things into account. Quests and world building would have to take things into account... It's just a lot of extra work that I don't think they want to spend.

Not to mention the vast differences, ghouls are healed by radiation and utterly immune to it. Super Mutants are also immune to radiation, but also have a very high strength and endurance.

Statistically speaking they are superior to humans. This could be balanced by giving them a slower perk rate but chances are that be to BIG of a drawback. Perhaps as some level 30 perk or the like.

You do realize that Super Mutants and Ghouls were humans, right? Their story is as much a part of the story of humanity following the war, as is the story of the humans themselves.

But like I said, it's just something I'd like to have. Not something I really see happening.

Sure Super mutants have a ton of strength and endurance but most have the IQ of warm jello. The number of bright ones are few and far between (it's rare for any newly made super mutant to be smart) or swiftly becoming insane. So you can kiss most of your skill points good-bye. Add in the fact that a lot of groups will shoot you on sight means you won't be spending a lot of time in most towns.

I wish Obsidian would've included an option to be a ghoul.. It's pretty easy to do in the G.E.C.K. but nobody will react that the courier is a ghoul

I disagree, it would cheapen the impact of ghouls in the game. Now you can pretend being on the way to ghoulification by taking Rad Child, just as some thrait/perks seems to indicate mutant or cyborg, heck play softcoe and petend to be a android! :geek:
