While loading F:NV a few slides come at you, "Obsidian," "Bethesda," etc.
When the copywrite info flies by, I noticed that the Gamebryo engine is copywrite circa 2006.
Now I'm not a computer genius or anything like that, but here's what I've been thinking.
People have complained about the casinos and towns being too empty, that the strip should have been ungated and much bigger.
The general response has been that "the engine can't handle this or that," "there's a mod for that," etc. If I'm not mistaken Gamebryo is the engine right?
The second point I noticed was that while playing firefight mode on Halo Reach at my friend's house on his Xbox 360 arcade (pretty basic-nothing-special processor there), and there were literally 200 little alien guys running around on two different screens. There wasn't a single crash, freeze, or pause for about 4 hours.
Now I understand they are different games, and that Fallout is a lot, A LOT more complicated. BUT, Halo Reach has got better graphics and textures if you ask me, and it can handle a hundred npc's. So don't tell me you couldn't come up with something!
I guess I'm just asking for a totally different engine in F:4. If it comes out in 2012, how could they not? I get that there must be a lot of time and money involved in this stuff. But back in 2006 we were just on the brink of flip-phone technology.
Also, is there something I got wrong, or a reason I overlooked, or something that will make me smack my forehead and go "oh!"?
