Ultimate Character Suggestions?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 6:31 pm

Hey guys,

I am planning on making my next playthrough character of Fallout New Vegas for Xbox 360 a master of stealth. I plan on making his major skills speech ( to make him persuasive ), stealth ( to remain hidden to maximize sneak criticals ), and guns ( to handle accuracy with a sniper rifle etc.). But I also want to be able to manage my barter and repair skills so I can have a good buisness experience and be able to Jury Rig. Any suggestions?

All suggestions are appreciated.

You won't want to be playing in hardcoe mode, as a lot of your points will go into the survival skill. if you were looking to make a stealthy character I would suggest melee and/or unarmed as one of your combat skills, as a lot of situations are in close combat, and you can be more efficient with weight not having to carry multiple weapons around.

next you have to decide which you would prefer at the beginning of your adventure: more caps or easier combat. more caps means more supplies and better equipment, plus you won't have to go scavenging for items, just check a few shops to see if they have what you need. if you prefer superior combat abilities at the start of your game, then you can still make a nice haul if your a particularly evil character and kill almost everyone you see.

if you try to level up evenly in your major skills, you'll find yourself unable to take advanced perks, and have difficulty killing more formidable foes. remember that for repair/speech/barter skills have skill magazines that can temporarily increase those skills, and it's a lot easier to use those when you need them most then the combat ones when your in the middle of a firefight.

so yeah, just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

That sounds like it would be a pretty fun character build. You should be able to max all of your listed skills by 30. You don't really need to take repair past 90. I'd level stealth to 50 for silent running and then take it to 100 last. I would also level guns 2nd to last, it only has 2 perks based on weapon skill (cowboy and that one for +15% dmg to chest shots) and still does pretty good damage/has good accuracy with low skill and manual aiming. The reason being, if you spend points on guns early, you'll be hurting for speech challenges for quite a while. You might want to invest into a companion until you get silent running. Lockpick and science are always good skills to pick up if you like to explore and loot places. You can get a really nice sniper rifle when bypassing a 100 skill lock.

Just my 2 cents. =)

That sounds like good advice for creating my character, I think I will do that.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion!

I'm playing a character like that, and it's in hardcoe mode. I kind of make him a persuasive thief that does whatever has the highest bid. So of course I've got really bad karma. He has high intelligence and charisma, and I put a lot of points into barter, speech (I've noticed that barter and speech are options that appear often together in dialogues, and that barter is really good for my "double the caps and I'll do it" kind of guy), sneak and science, but I gotta put some more into lockpick aswell to work with his thief image. I'm switching his outfits between reinforced leather armor + other things from mods when he's out in the wasteland, and a suit + hat when he's on the strip. There he use either Benny's 9mm pistol Maria or that Mysterious .44 Magnum revolver. Out in the wasteland he uses a varmin rifle <3 oh, the varmint rifle.

Btw, he's also got Confirmed Bachelor, Lady Killer (bisixual oh yeah) and Terrifying Presence. Haven't really used that last perk yet though :P
