Ok, I'm new to the whole RPG thing, but I'm plaing New Vegas on my way to Nipton when I get a message saying "beer has worn off" and my character starts walking RIDICULOUSLY slow. I don't have the sort of patience to get anywhere at the speed he walks., and I'm pretty much screwed for every fight. I drank vodka a bit earlier, too and it had the same effect when it wore off. Is this what alcohol is suppost to do to you in the game, and if so, how long does it take to wear off?
I mean, I've been hung over before, but I've never started walking frustratingly slowly when my buzz wore off.

You walk very slowly when you carry more than your strength allow, and alcohol temporarily increase your strength. So what you have to do is to stop to carry so much and stash away your items somewhere (or sell it), or increase your strength stat or get the Strong Back perk.

Check your limit in the weapons menu on your pip-boy. It may have already told you in the top corner of your screen, it only lasts about three seconds.
