Request for multiple Followers

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 10:52 pm

Im asking Obsidian/bethesda in a future patch the inclusion of the ability to hire more then one follower*other then non humonoid*.I know biggest reason why this isnt allowed is due to balance but just given the choice to being able to couldnt harm anyone can it?.I know im not the only one who would liek this.So please if possible add multiple followers option. * i know my punctiation/writing skills blow ass*

I liked Fallout 2's system, where your Charisma would decide the max amount of followers...
Not saying you should be able to walk a caravan, but maybe something like 8 CHA = 2 Non-humanoids, and 10 = 2 Humanoids?
Seems allright to me, if you nerfed some of the followers a tiny bit...

If you are on PC, there is a mod that allows you to have multiple companions based on charisma. And if you have very low charisma, you can't have any companions

Well the charisma system from the old games would make us a bit too powerful to run around with 5 fully armed companions.
I do on the other hand think that we should be able to pick a perk which allows us to pick up 2 humanoids followers. (You cannot use Cass, Boone "and" ED-E. It's either 1 humanoid and one non-humanoid or it's two humanoids period.)

I play this game with and without followers.

I have to ask this question. Do we ever need more than one follower? As it stands right now, I barely use any ammunition when I am exploring with a follower, unless I am sniping out an area.

Fallout 2 did lend itself to using more than one follower and it helped in the battles. However, in this game, one human follower is just about right for any situation that I have come across.

I have the Unlimited Companions mod and have used 5 at one time but you do find that it's too much. Going through doors for example. All 6 of us exiting the Dino Gift Shop on that small landing and I couldn't even get to the stairs. I had to jump off to get to the ground. But that was funny and it was fun and if we were allowed the option in-game, people could choose. I think 2-3 companions would be just right for gameplay and you can have more if you just want to mess around...or none. Having that freedom for everyone would be great. I liked traveling with Boone (before he was broken), ED-E and Arcade. Boone doesn't say much but Arcade makes more comments. Boone hung back like a sniper and Arcade would fearlessly go towards the enemy. They balanced each other with EW and Guns too. I'm not a great fighter so it was good.

@CCNA

No-one nescessarily NEEDS a follower at all, however it comes more down to preference and realism. Realism to a certain extent anyways.
I know at least I would bring as many people with me as possible if I planned to roam a wasteland rife with mutations and such

Exactly. I use that mod and had to add a mod that let me fast travel from anywhere (including inside buildings) just so I could get out of tight building spaces. Another thing I’ve found is with too many followers you never have to unholster your weapon. You stroll to wherever you’re going and your companions run about and kill everything for you.

Accordingly, allowed an unlimited number of companions, I find that one human companion and two non-human (Rex, ED-E and/or a Securitron companion modded into the game) is about right.

I think we should be able to pick two companions, non-humanoid or otherwise.

Sawyer said on SA that the reason you can only have two companions (and only one humanoid companion) is that it's otherwise too hard on console hardware. I guess fully-functional humanoid companions take a fair bit of memory to use, which is something the poor Xbox with its 512 megs of shared memory can't cope with.

So... No matter how much you request a change to this, chances are you aren't going to get it. Your only recourse is to use the mods that change this on the PC version.

I think it's done on purpose, to prevent lagging because the gamebryo can't handle multiple NPC's very well and to create a standard for all hardware systems. I don't know about FONV because I play without mods, however I do know in FO3 my computer started to lag like hell with Mart's zombie cemetery mod. My laptop, although it can handle more than a console, will have a serious drop in framerate if I start using these mods. Well maybe not the multiple companion mod but definitely in addition with a population increasable mod. So that's why it is how it is IMO. Too bad for console gamers and PC users who don't have the necessary hardware. Anyways, you've a maximum of two companions already.

Some folks not on the pc might like to have 2 human companions instead of one human and the mutt/bot. I don't understand why they chose not to allow that. Well, I do, perhaps (2 humans are more effective than human/mutt) but at least for me, Arcade/Boone or Raul/Cass or whatever other combo is MUCH more entertaining than Rex/Arcade.

But the hardware limitation aspect is a valid point, especially regarding consoles, and I think it is likely the reason it was restricted to two. I don't think I'd want more than 3 as a default option, because of the overcrowding/follow distance issues that crop up, like mentioned.

Exactly how is it a problem having 2 Humanoid followers instead of 1 Human and 1 Non-human?

That's what I'd like to know.
The only thing I can think of is that the added tech aspects of having 2 companions that you can equip with both weapons and gear AND use as an inventory mules is still too much for those hardware limitations.
