When it comes to modern video games they tend to represent a certain experience. Alot of single player games now have a "movie-like" experience. There's a set plot with set characters, but rather than watching it, you're part of it and its alot longer than a movie - think something like Metro 2033, Dead Space, or Splinter Cell for example.
Then you've got your video game video games - run and gun. Not alot of real story just alot of action - think Call of Duty, Diablo 2, or Fallout 3.
So what's different about F:NV? I couldn't put my finger on it, but I've finally decided that F:NV is alot like a TV series that you "experience". It doesn't have the same "Wow! factor" of a "movie," or the same level of action as a "video game". Nope, its alot like a TV series, there's a more or less a set narrative but there's lots of plot diversions, alot of characters, and some action.
It feels to me alot like when I'm watching a movie compared to a TV show. It's more engrossing in the long run and you find yourself strangely addicted to it, Diablo 2 or F3 are addicting game s because there's a ridiculous ammount of action, F;NV isn't as addicting but when I play it I get stuck in it for hours - much the same way I'll pick my way through a dvd season of a TV show. I'll never be completely engrossed in it like a movie, but i'll keep watching it.
I don't know if this makes any sense...
