Unarmed Pill Popping Courier Video Guide

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 7:37 pm

I'm doing a video guide for an Unarmed character on Very Hard and I just wanted to share it here. I've played Unarmed characters in all the Fallout games, including New Vegas and I think Obsidian really gave Unarmed a lot of love in this game.

You can find my playlist here: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5DB8073124DE87E8

"They Went That-a-way" in Primm

I also would like to use this thread to go into greater detail on anything discussed in the videos and for your feedback. I'm not sure how many unarmed players are around but if you have any suggestions or input let me know. I'd also like to know what companions any of you unarmed or melee characters like to use. Raul has worked well for me in the past and Veronica's special can be fun. Let me know what you think.

I can't stand melee combat in the modern Fallout because it all boils down to becoming a click-fest. But good work nonetheless :)

So far so good on the first video. The SPECIAL selection makes sense, though unless you are intending to max EN, I usually go with 8 EN since you can pretty much skip the extra implant for CH. Maybe throw the extra point into LK for the crit bonus...

I took 9 instead of 8 Endurance mainly because of the health and resistance bonuses. For unarmed or melee characters, I think the 20 hp is a little better than 1% more crit chance. The charisma implant will be pretty much useless though. I may not even get it.

I'm also curious if anyone has any numbers for Fatigue Points on enemies. I found the fatigue damage numbers for boxing gloves, boxing tape, and gold gloves, but does anyone know the total amount of fatigue points enemies tend to have?

What's up AG? Haven't seen you since they took down (though recently restored) the ME2 strategy forum.

Don't have the numbers for fatigue limits of enemies on hand, but it feels pretty similar across the board to me. I know I had fun KO'ing deathclaws with bean-bag ammo.

I've got a new section up covering some basic advice and hints before leaving Goodspring. Everything is going to pick up more once I hit Primm since a lot of quests can be done in rapid succession.

Thanks for the tips. I look forward to more updates. I may try an unarmed character next.

Off topic: I play PS3 and only got the tribal DLC. Is there a way to get the others for the PS3? If so, is there a way to turn off what you don't want?

On console, the only way would be to get them off ebay or something. Tribal is still decent for unarmed though, just be ready with stim packs more often. You can't turn a dlc off at the start, but between the two merchants in goodspring, you could pretty much sell everything in the first town.

Nice job Gatsby! I enjoyed your Mass Effect Guides as well. Are you by any chance going to try and get all of the npc unarmed perks for this character (Ranger Takedown, Legion Assault, Scribe Counter, and the Khan Trick)? If so, could you explain what some of these do?

hardcoe mode is nicer using unarmed or melee since you don't need any ammo. My biggest suggestion would just be using water/liquids and food every single time you get hurt instead of stimpacks, and run away a lot. I am going to make a couple videos later on hardcoe mode but really once you get used to not being able to panic stimpack and remembering to do your daily living chores its not all that different.

I've got 2 more videos up dealing with the quest "They Went That-a-way" in Primm

Also, someone pointed out in the comments that you can sometimes randomly get some Spiked Knuckles in an open safe in the back of the Vicki and Vance Casino, but it didn't happen for me either. I think I'm going to do some side quests before pushing on the with the main story and I'll have those videos up soon.
