First of all I am a great fan of Fallout and Bethesda Games. BUT I am really getting tested over the last Month. I have Upgraded my Computer to Windows 7 Ultimate, Office home and Student 2010, from "XP,sp3". I am not sure if I have done something wrong because I am unable to install my Fallout NV so that I can play the 2DLC 's I bought.
My OS is well above any of the Minimum Requirements needed by all of the games, But Still NO LUCK in getting these games on my Computer. I have Uninstalled them and tried every way it is possible to install the Game, So I am at a loss for words. I have hunted through every forum to find a answer that will allow me to install Fallout NV.
I even tried to download it from STEAM and this Failed. I have Contacted Windows about if it is Compatible with my upgrade, And it is.
Over the last week I have had a small win I have received an Error Box open and it states [this game has to close, Windows will look for a cause and notify you, (Still has not told me why) but another check stated that there is a file missing, "Doesn't say what file". so I am at my wits end with what else I can do...
IF ANYONE OUT THERE CAN HELP ME, PLEASE MAKE IT FAIRLY SIMPLE AS I AM NOT A WHIZ.
THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH DEAD SPACE 2 AND BULLETSTORM. SINCE THEN I HAVE INSTALLED AND PLAYED WITCHER 2 , PORTAL AND CRYSIS 2. So it doesn't just pick on Bethesda Games...

I await and hope that there is someone out there who has had this problem and solved it. I will welcome any sensible reply with open arms so that I can once again put on my Pipboy and get into Dead Money & Honest Hearts. :cryvaultboy: :brokencomputer:

I've had a similar problem.

I bought the game from the store, and installed it on my PC. I later abandoned that PC due to it just being not the right fit for me. I installed it on another PC, no problem! Although strangely, when I reinstalled Steam after the second time with the same Window's genuine license due to a hard drive failure, it recognized it as a 'different type of install location' to verify. I believe this is some form of digital rights management and security precautions.

From my experience, the only way in which to recover from these situations is to contact billing and request a full refund. They aren't stored on your computer anywhere, they are stored in the databases on either Bethesda or Obsidian controlled entities along with their communications with Steam.

While this could be in the DLC or Tech Issues (PC) forum, I believe this is the correct place. The only way we can get these kind of things fixed is to hope that someone with gamesas.com has enough desire and passion for the game to ask their supervisors to look through the coding issues and fix it to reset DRM towards valid ID formats before charging.

It's an inevitable consequence of the safety measures, such as how my 2002 Ford Ranger caught fire in storage with only 14,000 miles due to an 'always on fire' cruise control switch. This game has thousands of units which aren't able to handshake through proper methods and reinstall the FalloutNV.esm content, despite being legitimate purchases.

Try this, when you start steam after starting windows click update video drivers through steam. I have to do this after rebooting windows but it starts every time after that with no issues.
