DLC Intro Cinematics

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 1:16 am

Hey, anyone else here HATE how they introduce the PC to DLC zones? Most of them knock you out, and then you wake up naked with nothing on you and magically you get all your crap back at then end of it, or, if you are lucky, get it back while you are going through the DLC.

This is so unnecesary and silly IMHO. Why you ask? Look at Broken Steel and Point Lookout. Both of them dont have this rediculous overused mechanic and I know why they do it. To add "Difficulty". No...Just no... It doens't add difficulty because my skills in videogames don't magically become much less refined... I don't forget how to accurately and quickly aim a sniper rifle or other weapon... I don't forget how to use sneak/tactics to my advantage. All it does is force you to use some crappy weapon you don't want to use.

Anchorage, I can understand and make due with because it's a simulation so obviously you'd need to use what you can in that DLC but the others have other ways of avoiding this... For most of them, speech skill could be utilized in order to not be ambushed like you were in the Pitt, and I don't count Mothership Zeta since you get your gear back pretty quickly, within the first ten minutes so no big deal for me, but it could be included in this as well.

Now fallout New Vegas has begun to follow this trend of ALWAYS knocking out the PC like they did for most other DLCs... You'd think after getting fooled once or twice you'd be ready for some ambush or suspicious stuff.

They could do the whole knock out thing really, it's very annoying to me and they can think of many different ways to introduce a new DLC area, but the thing the gets me is taking your gear away WHEN IT DOES NOT ADD DIFFICULTY. There is NO reason to do it. What, you want me to use a new weapon? Okay, I will... IF I WANT TO. If I don't like shotguns, don't make me use a shotgun, etc...etc...

Or, have a system where it randomly generates where you can keep ONE weapon and its corresponding ammo type and all the rest are taken away.

I have to use the Cheat Terminal NV to litterally cheat the system into thinking I have nothing in my inventory when I shouldn't have to do this. I REALLY LIKE the new DLCs... they are all very well written, thought out, content is great, backstories, history etc... all wonderful and relavent.

BUT WOW is it SO ANNOYING to constantly have to keep losing my gear, getting it back, and re equipping all of it.

am I crazy? or do I have some validation here?

I see how they can make sense, sure, but it is annoying to have the same thing happen over and over again... it's annoying to me is all.

It's not like i'm asking them not to do it, but other things can be tried, and I have methods of avoiding the gear stealing and the beginning but still.. I shouldn't have to revert to a mod just to have my gear, the gear i want to use, able and available to me....

Well how the [censored] would removing gear work in Broken Steel being a continuation DLC? Oh yeah and it's only happened once in New Vegas so what's your point? Even in Fallout 3 it made sense, you go into a simulation, you get enslaved, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, you get captured by aliens, you get knocked unconcious, Honest Hearts.

Dead Money would have been way way way way way easier if you kept your stuff. You got gased in DM.

HH gave a pretty lame excuse, but it was good enough to drop to 75 or 100 lbs of gear. MZ ok it was aliens they can do what ever they want.

The Pitt was the really dumb one. I walk in wearing t51b with the helmet and two guys hit me in the head and I m knocked out?

Super mutant masters and overloards beat me in the head the whole game. I got shot in the head a lot. The Pitt was just dumb.

I don t mind it, as long as they do better than The Pitt.

Taking your best weapons and all your crap make it harder MLG or not. PL the enemies were so strong they had to give you a perk that rasied your dam and dr while standing still.

The PL tribals were nasty, and your weapons were not enough in the mansion. Unless of coarse you pull an alien blaster.

PL NPCs were such hardasses they didn t need to take your weapons.

Well, as it's pointed out, only DM takes away your stuff, HH has sensible rational for making you get down to 80/100lbs.

But more to the point, if you go into a DLC already carrying a ton of stuff you're going to have to dump it somewhere to accommodate all gear you pick up, that's why you start with little or nothing.

Well thanks for the spoiler warning at the beginning of your post :/ I was saving Dead Money to play in a week or so when I lose my internet. NOT playing it right away is kind of like geek foreplay for me.

Wouldnt be so challenging if you could just storm the place with your super duper souped up assault carbine blazing and Ed-E slaughtering anything else that got in your way now, would it?

I think the DLCs want to challenge you, and for you to try out just how 'hard' your courier actually is when they havent got the super duper fancy armour and lots and lots of guns.

I'll be happy to have all my stuff taken away from me, I'm interested to see just how badly my Courier is going to get her ass kicked without her guns considering I think her melee is at around 23.

I don't get this post at all. You say you're not counting Anchorage, The Pitt, or Zeta.

...

But they always take our gear? Once so far in Dead Money, confirmed not to happen in DLC's after that.

I think that maybe? thread starter was asking HOW on EARTH this badass courier that factions are actually fighting over to get the courier onto their side, can get taken down so easily?
I mean, getting shot in the head and basically screwed over once, fine. But to get somehow knocked out by a few goons when to everyone else in the wasteland you're some kind of badass? It does feel a little...unfeasible?

Just trying to think about what the thread starter might be thinking.

I'm saving the DLC as mentioned, but considering my Courier is so badass she can indeed cockslap Deathclaws naked, I too would be a bit "uihmm.. really?" if a few mere humans managed to take her down just like that.

BTW, what happens to companions when you go to the sierrea madre? Can they come too? Or does precious sweet prince boone and psycho robot bastard have to go wait in the L38 till you return?

Some of you have issues with anger... wow...

All i did was make a post with what I thought was a viable topic for debate and THIS is how you act? Really? What are you, ten years old?

You don't get the point of this post? Well, let me clarify then since context clues and infering can't be used...

Look at the title, DLC Intro Cinematics... this infers that i'm not only talking about NV, i'm talking about ALL the Fallout franchise DLCs, not just the two NV ones. You can understand this if you read the post. Also, I explained why I excluded OAnchorage and MZeta, but I ALSO stated that if you wish, I could include MZeta in the list as well, since it does take your gear, but NOT FOR LONG like DeadMoney, The Pitt, Honest Hearts (it makes you reduce/stash your stuff if you are carrying over a certain limit, it could be considered to do the same, but you guys might tar and feather me for blasphemy or something lol) among others.

It does not add difficulty... honestly, if it does, maybe you should play on easy, non hardcoe. I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but this game literally throws items at you especially dead money. Getting enough healing supplies, campfire ingredients, craft ingredients is so mind numbingly simple a chimp could do it. So taking my stuff away will NOT make me forget how to scavenge, pull my items together to make more healing/food/water items, will not make me forget all that i've been doing to succeed in the regular game, so why even bother? For what point? There is no point to it, other than to be a nuisance.

I know some of you will be a thorn in my side, stating DM and the "foreign substance remover" thing... but honestly, that's a cheesy excuse.

So, it does not add difficulty, and the reasoning behind it (game lore) does not necesitate it... so why does it exist? To be an annoyance, a minor one.

I already said I wasn't going to go crazy over it... I wasn't whining that the devs spring into action and immediately fix it or i would march on washington or something... I just said they could do OTHER THINGS than have you knocked out and have your stuff taken away (or just one of the two) because it was getting a little OLD since ALL the DLC's had this from Fallout 3.

Don't think they do? Okay, let's go through them.

SPOILERS... obviously I don't think they are since fallout 3 came out years ago, and many have the new DLCs but hey, whatever...

Operation Anchorage... you get KNOCKED OUT when you fall off the cliff and your fellow soldier wakes you up, you have no gear since you are in the simulation. Knocked out and without gear... hmm... albeit you are given some gear, but not some that everyone would like, not THEIR gear that they like and are familar with, although it makes no difference in difficulty (quite easy to get ammo, healing machines, etc...)

The Pitt... You go, travel to Pittsburg, are KNOCKED OUT and have your gear stolen from you when trying to enter downtown... wow, a trend starting? Oh no, they don't do this right? You are given a knife/gun if you choose, and later, very early, you can get assualt rifles/autoaxe etc... and it DOES NOT add DIFFICULTY for taking your gear away, it is just there for annoyance factor... again, no difficulty since you get healing items/chems/explosives very easily throught the entire DLC...

Point Lookout... You sleep , not KNOCKED OUT but close enough, and wake up after the boat ride yet you RETAIN your gear which i said BEFORE... obviously this does not fit with the thread, but it does ONE of the two. I said i'd ignore this one, since you don't get technically knocked out/ambushed or have your gear stolen, but hey... this DLC is another very easy one to complete with a vendor, plenty of enemy drops etc... not hard at all.

Broken Steel... you get KNOCKED OUT and wake up two weeks later in the BoS compound and are naked/without gear, having to reassign everything... now, while this isn't following the first ones completely, you still get KNOCKED OUT although you DIE in the regular game/game ends so this one is technically unavoidable ALTHOUGH I SAID THIS AND PLOOKOUT I DID NOT INCLUDE for sound reasons but again, I was virtually slapped for it...

Mother ship Zeta... you get beamed up, get KNOCKED OUT and your GEAR IS TAKEN albeit, not for long but it is STILL taken... again, like fallout 3 and the other DLCs, very easy to complete and many weapon repair/armor repair/ammo in the DLC

Fallout NV Dead Money... Gear is taken and you are KNOCKED OUT... gear is taken throughout entire DLC. Annoying and not hard at all, seriously, if you found this difficult than you need to brush your skills up or something... they litterally give you the chance to get over 100 repair kits and over 300 stimpaks. So taking the gear AGAIN leads to NO DIFFICULTY increase or is NEEDED for the STORY of the DLC.

Honest Hearts... you are forced to dis-encumber yourself having at least 75lbs or less, 100 through a speech check... you are AMBUSHED yet you retain the gear you still have with you although it is LESS than what you have, maybe considerably less...

WOW OH MY SWEET JESUS only ONE DLC did NOT have you KNOCKED OUT and it still had you ambushed though, and 5/7 had you RELINQUISH all or PART of your gear

BUT OH MY GOD THIS OLDSPICE GUY IS SO FULL OF IT HE KNOWS NOTHING...I DO NOT GET WHY HE MADE THIS DUMB THREAD THAT HAS NO POINT...

Really? My thread was so dumb? Wow... So either I have the [censored] attacking me or just people who got out of the wrong side of the bed.

Is this clear enough for you now, or shall I engrave it upon stone? Sorry, don't mean to be jerky about it, but some of you guys just can't be civil with this, even If you don't AGREE with me, you don't have to treat me like i'm an idiot WHEN I CLEARLY have a VIABLE discussion point. It may not be right, but it at the very least be debated without it seeming like i'm some kind of simpleton that has yet to get past Megaton or for NV, Nipton for the first time.

thanks to the ONE PERSON who actually tried to comprehend what I was getting at, that the PC must be the most gullible person to be put into these situations ESPECIALLY in NVegas to be constantly being ambush prone/ prone being taken advantage of.

THAT is my POINT. It makes no clear point to keep having this sort of thing happen to the PC, it does not add difficulty/add variety, it does not have to be put into the story of most of the DLCs Although SOME, LIKE I SAID IN THE OTHER POST were excusable for the knockout, like OAnchorage and BSteel which I pointed out AGAIN since people apparently skimmed over those parts for whatever reason, or maybe I just didn't make it clear, although I thought I did.

I know some are going to be smart alics and just be difficult for the sake of being difficult and disagree for the sake of arguing but hey... I guess some people enjoy that huh...

EDIT: Wow, fan boy's is censored? Interesting... and guess what.

In the Old World Blues interview (most probably watched but again, SPOILERS)

Guess what? You get... wait for it... KNOCKED OUT, get your brain stolen, and your gear stolen.. WOW, IMAGINE THAT. You have to utilize the old world tech (DLC items instead of your gear, they are probably over powered, and you probably get plenty of healing/buff/repair items/craft items to help you, more than you can shake a stick at) so again, it will be mind numbingly easy to do...

so another one, that will be out of all 8 DLCs, only two will not knock you out, and only two will not have you relinquish all/part of your gear.

But i'm such a dope and fool for making this thread, right?

Look at the forum you're in, it doesn't infer, it states it's for discussion about F:NV. Your rant should be in the Fallout Series discussion.

In Dead Money, we did it for the survival/horror experience. None of the future DLCs strip gear from a player, although in Honest Hearts, because of the caravan journey you're on (and the distance) you can only carry a certain weight limit (which can be increased with skills and perks).

In both Honest Hearts and Old World Blues, you'll find out fast that you're in a difficult situation and need to finish the adventure once begun - but both adventures take place in an open world free-roaming location (similar to Point Lookout). Once there, you can tackle your objectives in any order or ignore them entirely. After completing the adventures, you can return freely to both locations from the Mojave.

In Old World Blues, it's very, very easy to return anytime you want, and we tried to make it as easy as possible for people to do so.

Lonesome Road is a bit different. As the name suggests, it's more a road that leads to an end destination (though not like any road you may have seen before), so it's structured a bit differently - you can travel it, and come back anytime you want. You can also return to it after the adventure is over.
