I got totally screwed :(

Post » Wed May 18, 2011 10:26 pm

So. It's rare I ever come across an RPG that I find to be one of the best I have ever played. I played The Witcher about 5 weeks ago and beat it, and I loved it. Asides from a few combat issues, I could not WAIT for the sequel [this is really impressive for me]. I'v had the second game sitting in my room for about 2 days now, but i'v yet to install it because i'v been waiting for time off work to install it [finally off for 3 days], and now.. dun dun dun!

After I install it, it starts patching, then the patcher immediately crashes, and when I try to play, it keeps repeating the same thing :(

God must hate me

*shakes fist* WELL THE FEELING IS MUTUAL PAL!!

Uninstall it. Reinstall it. Get the patches from the internet instead of the launcher. The patches after the activation one even disable activation and any launcher function. Because it is that screwed up.

I'v tried. I installed and uninstalled it three times now. It's saying the installation is incomplete when it tries to patch after telling me it installed correctly.. [cause that makes sense].

Gayest. Crap. Ever.

You should have installed it before, then just played it when you were finally free. Though if you were going to have this problem, my suggestion doesn't help at all. :P

I can't even run the game itself. It just goes to patching. I'v downloaded every patch, for every region this game could be bought in. They all do the same thing ):
Running as administrator doesn't work either.

Bad disc? does the data side have an area that doesn't look right?

Is the patching starting automatically? If so then disconnect your internet before installing

Doesn't look like it. I compared it to another disk and they both look the same.

I just tried this, and it brought up the patcher screen and I got an error saying the game failed to patch and shut down ><

Have you tried launching the game from the .exe instead of from the launcher?

Doing so should allow you to bypass the launcher entirely, skipping the patch process.

It's Windows. Things crash. It happens. It's probably a problem with your Windows install or some conflict caused by something already present. Believe it or not, many, many people have gotten The Witcher 2 to work without crashing. I know it's hard to believe, but not everything is the fault of someone else! You're experiencing a technical difficulty? Contact... oh, I dunno, technical support for the game, or try some basic Windows maintenance tools before reinstalling instead of ranting on another publisher's forum about how a random bug makes a fantastic game the "gayest crap ever". Seriously, calm down, maybe grow up a little, and do some problem solving.

Okay, after a bit of research I have a few things to try.*

Number 1: Download the patch from wherever you may find it, then run as administrator.

Number 2: I have no idea if you pre-installed any mods for it, but if you did those may be causing something.

Number 3: I'm not sure if you actually tried to bypass the game's launcher or not, but you should try that.

*Results gathered during ten minutes of Googleing. Suggestions may or may not help. Your experience may vary. Please consult your local witchdoctor if symptoms last for more then three weeks. Not available in Utah.

I had similar issues with Oblivion, but wiping every entry of that game from my system registry made it install in a stable condition again. But I guess you're taking the game back, so whatever.

My Oblivion installation doesn't come with an uninstaller, isn't that the oddest thing? All I can say is thank goodness for Revo uninstaller so I don't manually have to delete the registry keys again. I always get nervous when I'm mucking around in those C:\Windows folders.

My launcher isn't broken, and my game works fine. I downloaded all my patches via the launcher.

This is basically my opinion.
