Faction Equipment

I was wondering what you folks thought about the implementation of faction armors in this game. I hadn't played any previous fallout, so I had to learn about the consequences of actions through trial and error (PEBKAC). It seems to me they were added as an 'access point,' such that say at one point you wanted to play a faction's side but 'accidentally.. on purpose'T a member of that faction previously. Acquire some of their clothes and you're in... to an extent.

Has it worked out well for you guys? I haven't really touched the feature at all, and just let my choices ride out except in one case. I was playing Come Fly with Me and looking around (and by looking around I mean I used a grenade and the bull in a china shop tactic to lay out the materials in a janitor's closet and see if there was anything for me.) A brotherhood of ghoul passed by as I clicked an Abraxo cleaner... whoops.

I was watching some of a tobuscus lp on youtube, and he used them one time to get into the legion base. After having 'accidentally.. on purpose' killing everyone with Boone. It seemed to have a negative impact on him though, 'cause he couldn't make it all work well (which makes sense since it's their total main base). He ended up constantly doing a 'kill everyone the reload from quicksave' tactic after that though in every place he went like a broken record (so the mechanic sort of broke his playstyle). Eventually some drunk got in his car and stole his computer irl (for all those games breeds violence haters out there) and he did the stand up thing so yeah. On that vein this is an amazing messageboard btw, reminds me of the 1990s when BBS were cool, altavista was my home page, and rpgers were cool instead of haters.

Do you guys like the effect the armors can have put you into the 'wild child' areas of play, or instead like the harsher consequences of championing a faction? I'm wondering if you guys want to see this innovation continue on into Skyrim, such that you could svck out a few dragon souls but later on continue on with or replace a dragon's roost (not sure what to expect since these open style Bethesda games surprise me at every turn with giants, dragons, the philosophies of men, and almost unlimited content).

Faction disguise almost made it into my list of "great things about NV". What it is lack of is that it doesn't allow the Courier to disguise as an anonymous, but instead just push him to a faction.

I also dislike how it cannot fool any named npc in most situation because they are the only one that you can do quest with.

I hate that I can't use my black Ranger armor without being disguised all the time. :sadvaultboy:

Yes it was a very good idea, with some extra scripting like that used by modders it could have worked out at least one kink mentioned above.

Put on armour in pip boy.. a little info box pops up [ Do you wish to wear this as a disguse.. yes / no ]
Click no you keep the outfit on but don't gain the disguse function, click yes it's a disguse.

However this said, even if it is not as good as we wish it was, at least it is in and has helped me in many playthroughs.
So I'm thankful for that and hopeful next game gets it tweaked to perfection.

Thing about that is that the Vegas area never had the Enclave, most of the NCR troops in the field would be fresh meat grunts in their 20's or commanders in their 30s, anyone who recalls the Enclave would have to be in their 50's or older.

Yeah, the Remannts themselves and the loading quotes say that the Enclave has been mostly forgotten.
