Customer Care question

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 4:36 pm

Good evening,

hope all is well.

I'm trying to find information about how to get a refund of the Honest Hearts DLC for Fallout New Vegas (Steam-version).

After having bought the DLC earlier this evening I enter the new area and play through it - in search of a map of some kind. I was thinking that it felt much more free form than the original game and the previous DLC (Dead Money) but didn't think anything was strange until I run into someone called Daniel. When killing him I notice a "Quest failed" popup. My first thought is that it was some minor quest I had stumbled upon and killed him by mistake or aggroed him. I loot the map and then get a quest-update to return to the entrance of Zion.

Traveling there - I get an end epilogue film announcing that I had completed the DLC and the aftermath of the story.

I've been looking through the forum here and quickly gathered that it isn't just me having this problem.

I am very surprised that an issue like this has gone through Quality Assurance testing. Seeing that the end result was that the entire game was skipped through and the ending spoiled - I find this totally unacceptable.

Back to my original question - I'm looking for information about how to get a refund of the product seeing that it does not hold up to an acceptable technical working standard. Any guidance in this would help from either other consumers or forum administrators/developers.

I wish you a great evening even though mine had a little disappointing ending due to the aforementioned.

Hoping for a speedy reply,

Best regards,

Sebastian

Steam does not give refunds.

The reason everyone's hostile is most likely because you, like many other players have accidentally killed Follow-Chalk when the caravan was ambushed.

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your reply.

Are you sure Steam does not give refunds? Sounds strange that they (as the "store") can't issue refunds or reimbursemants. I found the steam-support site and sent them a ticket and waiting for information.

I found the Bethesda email-page and I am thinking of trying that way as well - since maybe this forum is for the community only.

Regarding what you said about this guy/girl "Follow-Chalk"; I don't recall meeting that person. Maybe he or she fell down in that ravine or what it was in the beginning and disappeared. I'm wondering: was he/she a questgiver or something? - I find it strange that there wouldn't have been a "Quest failed" popup when he/she died? Or maybe that didn't work if he/she never really died and just disappeared or something. Anyway - I'm not very technical so I don't know these things really.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Sebastian

Just after the ambush when you crossed the bridge you are supposed to meet a guy called follows-chalk, it is VERY easy to kill him by accident as he tries to melee the guy you are shooting at (first time I crossed the river I thought he was a hostile so gatling laser'd his face off). If you do kill him then you can't start the quest that leads to Daniel and by killing follows-chalk you will then become hostile to Daniel, which means you skip 90% of the content.
I suggest you reload a save to where you entered Zion and try not to be too trigger happy :P
If this doesn't work then there is a problem that required propper support.

Hope this helps.

Hello Peter,

Thank you for your reply.

You're welcome. Yes I'm sure about the refunds, https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8360-WEJC-2625#refund is the information on their site.

Unfortunately Follow-Chalk appears right behind an enemy and thus gets caught in the crossfire quite often as the player tries to dispatch the foe. I think it's the first enemy that shows up after you cross the bridge, so observe him instead of returning fire.

Hello Reportingabug,

thank you for your information. I'm however not in need of technical support since I'm no longer interested in playing Honest Hearts having seen the epilogue movie.

Thank you though sincerely .

Hello again Peter,

yes you are right. I got confirmation from Steam-support and they stated the same information you linked to. I've contaced Bethesda through their contact form for the same inquiry but has yet to receive a reply.

Thank you for your suggestion about Follow-Chalk, I am though - as stated in the previous post to Reportingabug - not interested in playing Honest Hearts after this ordeal.

But your help is most appreciated regardless.

Best regards,

Sebastian

Making a mistake in a game and having to replay that part of the game in not at all uncommon. A hardy Fallout player has had to wade through innumerable crashes as well as bad choices. That is what gives our patience callouses and separates us from those easy peasy game players and their laid back approach to stable game play.

He is probably just trolling all of you. Every fallout fan would know that the ending would be different if he re-played it and did it right instead of being trigger happy at the start. Honestly you paid what? 10$'s not even, get over it. You won't get a refund because YOU made the mistake. If you really did read around the forums you would have also seen the cause of this, as in most of the threads about it, have players explaining what happened and how to avoid it.

You should, because the ending will be entirely different if you actually complete the missions.
