Problems loading mods

Post » Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:20 am

I just recently reinstalled New Vegas, and i figured I'd install a few HUD mods to keep track of things more conveniently. So I went through installation and started the game. Worked perfectly. Later on, I loaded up my save and got a crash before the game even had a chance to show me a loading screen. I figured this was just a one time thing, but it keeps happening. I ran the thing through the default loader, fomm, and the NVSE loader, but none of that helps. I dunno what i did to make the game allergic to new .esm and .esp files, but that seems to be what's causing the crashes.

Has anyone else experienced this incompatibility with mods? Is there a way to fix it without just reinstalling the game? Any help would be appreciated.

Assuming this caused by the UI mods, faulty xml files can cause a CTD before main menu, happened to me once due to a typo when manually making some UI mods work together. Try moving Fallout New Vegas\Data\menus\ folder somewhere else and see if the game starts.

No luck with moving the menus folder. I guess it wasn't very clear, but the game always crashes after the main menu, when continuing or starting from a save file. I dunno if that changes the problem or not, but I figured it would be helpful.

*Eh, forgot to add, I can usually start a new game, but I can't continue it later. With the menus folder removed, it just freezes when loading the opening scene with Doc Mitchell

Ah, well that certainly isn't caused by an UI mod. Never heard of a problem like that before. What is your load order?

Just the new vegas master and the classic pack master in that order. I was previously running HUD extended, Imp's More Complex Needs with HUD, Ambient Temperature, and Powered Power Armor, but I got rid of them to see if it would help at all. Not sure what the load order was with those, but i figure it's too late for that to matter.

In that case i would suggest a reinstall, some file(s) might have been modifed in a way that's pretty much impossible to figure out now.

After normal uninstall delete the Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout new vegas/ and My Documents/My Games/FalloutNV/ folders completely. If you want to save your save files and try to load them again with the new install, move the My Documents/FalloutNV/Saves folder somewhere else before you delete the folder, and retun it there after running the new install once.
