Looking for fallout 3-ish mods

Post » Sat Jun 11, 2011 11:21 am

Hi, so i just realised that i played fallout 3 for a little over 1200 hours and that's not even counting all time spent in geck and i finaly got bored wtíth it, iv'e tried all good mods, finished the game as a bad, good and ugly guy, done every quest, collected all items etc.
And i realised "Hey, i only got around 50 hours on new vegas!" so i installed it and started playing, and then i got reminded of how bad it was compared to fallout 3, it's a good game on it's own but if you compare it to fallout 3 it really svcks.
So then i thought "Hey, why not make it more like fallout 3!" So i booted up the geck and started, and now after about 10 hours of modding i still haven't gotten anywhere close to fallout 3s perfectness.

So now i'm asking you guys, are there any mods out there that adds for example:

that "green" feeling fallout 3 had or

Less caps, (seriously i have like 20.000 and i still have weapons and various [censored] i can sell, in fallout 3 i only have around 3000, rest goes for buying EC packs)

More radiation, like +1 rads/s in those small puddels and just mainly more of it.

GNR or Enclave radio.

Super mutants

More ruins

More Metro's

Or any mod that adds to the fallout 3 feeling.

Thanks in advance

And yeah, i have Hellfire armor so you can't flame me

Well considering New Vegas was better in every conceivable way I'm not sure why you'd want it to be more like FO3, but there is a mod on the Nexus that gives you a perk every level (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34707), and the World Of Pain mod adds a bunch of random dungeons to the world (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38719)

Sorry, there aren't any mods to make the writing or level design worse though, so you cant get closer to FO3 that way, I'm afraid. :whistling:

Get IWS, AWOP, and Project Nevada. I believe for the "green feeling", you can go to the options and change the text color to green. I don't remember the exact path to get to that option off the top of my head, though.

IWS, or Increased Wasteland Spawns, does exactly what the title says. Some other plugins will add either more enemies per spawn or patrols, citizens, etc.

AWOP, or A World of Pain, adds some quests and lots of dungeons and buildings.
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38719

Project Nevada adds all sorts of cool features, it is the successor of FWE from Fallout 3. In the rebalance plugin, I believe it makes radiation more deadly.

If you really want it to be like Fallout 3, and you have Fallout 3 installed, you can also play Fallout 3 from within New Vegas, with this: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41480

I dunno what's so good about fallout 3, it just has that "feeling". Vegas is more in the desert whilst fallout 3 is in D.C, i dunno why it's so damn good - it just is.

And yeah, i know that new vegas is close to fallout 1 and 2 wich is pretty awesome seeing how both those games where pretty darn good!

For the green "feeling", you can probably use the "Tintor" feature in the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39619. That'll make the game have a green-ish colouring.

For extra green-ness, you can use the green variant of http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41672' Radiation Effect.

That's pretty much all I can think of that hasn't been said.

If there's one thing FO3 beats NV at, it's exploration. There's many more places you can just stumble across out in the world, with their own little stories and themes. In NV, most of the content is quest-related and the stories come from NPCs rather than locations. AWOP does a pretty good job in adding new places for you to stumble across.

ugh for the requiem for the Capital Wasteland mod. It looks too good to be true...but maybe I'm wrong. I basically can go around with new vegas gear into the capital wasteland.

I'm getting it.

What's with the Poll? Did you just scamper over here from the Skyrim forum? Just ask a question like a normal person.

Requiem for the Capital Wasteland I could never get the main loading menu (continue/load/etc) to come up. It just sits there with the ranger over vegas background. The Loading menu bug is apparently very common.

I miss the Capital wasteland but I like the new things in NV.

New Vegas had a smaller world, with less overall freedom - say what you want about Bethesda's writing abilities (or lack thereof), but the Capital Wasteland was more filled out in practically every sense. New Vegas may have had detailed locations, but it certainly didn't have a detailed world. The sidequests in Fallout 3, while not as numerous or as well-written as in NV, generally had more options, too.

The feeling in Fallout 3 was not due to the "greenness" - it came from the sheer amount of stuff to explore and stuff to do. New Vegas, mainly due to being a side-game composed by an external studio in a relatively small amount of time was, well, a relatively small game. It was, however, a lot more focused than Fallout 3, and that pretty much made up for how "small" it was. Unfortunately, you can't really mod the sort of stuff Fallout 3 had into a game where there isn't much of a place for it. After all, it's a desert.

Why do you miss the radiation? One of the big things about NV is that the Mojave pretty much got out of the war unscathed because of Mr. House and his rooftop lasers. Unlike the capitol wasteland, which got carpetbombed with nukes.

Speaking for myself, it adds a sense of danger to exploring. It also makes rad-x and rad-away must haves. Kind of the same reason people like all the realistic eating/drinking mods. It just gives the game a wee bit more flavor.

Anyhow, I do miss fallout 3's atmosphere. Nevada is sadly lacking in cool spots. Nothing in Nevada compares to the mall area. (From ransacking museums, to exploring the capital building, looting hospitals or even finding military bases.)

Try A world of Pain. It adds a lot of large ruins/caves that are in short supply in New Vegas

I don't see how anyone can say that FO3 is better. I guess if I hadn't played FO1 and FO2 I'd probably think so too, but NV is just so much more true to the originals, and its quest writing and RPG elements are vastly superior.

I'd also recommend Project Nevada, because it adds weapons from Fallout 3 as well. I'd actually advise you to stay away from IWS, it hasn't been updated in forever, and it's pretty unstable IMO.

As for AWOP, its exploration is great, but its extremely intrusive, and not lore correct, so I stay away from it.

Yeah, but it dosn't feel as dangerous, in F3 i allways had rad-x and radaway with me. Now i never have enough radiation on me to need to use it.

I know, iv'e played both fallout 1 and 2 + Bos, and i agree that it's more true to the originals, but that's what i liked with F3.
It's so different

I'm thinking of downloading AWOP but your comment has made me think twice. What do you mean by "intrusive", do you mean it's over the top and gets in the way of the rest of the game?

Thanks.
