Reposting my post from the last thread, as it was post #201.
Spoiler
For the most part it was a great game, Team Bondi definitely need to make a sequel, and polish up a few issues.
For one, they need to completely redo the entire interrogation mechanic, Truth Doubt and Lie were much to vague, and doubt would often lead to Cole making a full blown accusation. It was also annoying to choose lie, pick a piece of evidence that proves it was a lie, only to find out it wasn't the RIGHT evidence for that particular question. In general I think they need to take a leaf out of Mass Effect's book and make dialogue and and actions at least seem to have more consequence than they do.

This especially applies to the entire homicide desk story arc, where the whole thing was cut and dry. You go through the cases, some of them seem like copy cats, some of them are obviously the BDK framing other people, but in the end, no matter the evidence to the contrary everyone was framed, and thats that. Choice and consequence, we need more.

The Vice missions seemed quite well done, but again I had a lot of problems with the interview mechanics, showing some evidence that proves someone was involved only to have them "Nope"
and get the question wrong.

Arson was far too short, for what were some of the best crime scenes to investigate, and it was apparant from the very first house you visit whats going on - home owners won't move, vacation, fire bam done. What really pissed me off was where you had to choose between two suspects, all my evidence points to Varley, so I choose him, leave the room and my boss yells at me! Well apparently you have some evidence that I didn't, because the guy damn near confessed!

Then for the final part of the story we get to play as Jack Kelso. A guy we have little to no relationship with. Sure the missions are fun enough (except for the damn bulldozer which would just kill me once I got to a certain point, even if it was miles behind me, until I shot that jerk in the damn head as soon as I aimed at him), but man, I just want to play as Cole again!
Yes, back to Phelps!
Oh it's just one evidence collection.
Back to Kelso.
Oh, Phelps is dead.

All in all a good game, I can't be bothered writing all the good points out after this rant, 8/10.

Bought the game yesterday, enjoying it so far but I wish it was a bit more GTA-esque - the differences in controls and car handling are kinda annoying.

I like the car handling, it was terrible in GTA 4 though, every car was like driving a boat.

Does anyone know what is on disks 2 & 3?

I asked in my thread but got no answer. Also, I'm saddened since my thread didn't count as Thread #4. Probably cause I forgot the "e".

At first I was really enjoying the game, but now I just find it repetitive and I've lost all motivation to play... :(

I keep accidentally running or shooting when I want to do the opposite, it's so annoying

Just finished it. Great game, although it gets a bit repetative towards the end. However the story was good enough to still keep my interest.
I wish Arson would have been longer though, felt a lot shorter than Homocide, which was one of the best parts.

Didn't like the fact that it never really made me want to explore. There are secret cars and stuff, but I can't really keep them, so what'st he point?
Some GTA like features like homes, garages, buyable outfits and especially more side missions aside from street crimes would have helped a lot.

It makes a nice addition to your collection, but like Miller said $30 is probably the best price for it.

Renting would be fine too though, because I haven't picked it back up since I beat it.

I wouldn't pay any more than $60AUD, but keep in mind we usually pay $120 for games.

Without any DLC, I liked the Outsider.

This is me acknowledging that i'm happy to see you in your sunday best again.

***

I'd rent it. If you have a lot of spare time on the weekend, you could easily nail it out. You can skip virtually every single drive to a location by holding down the "enter vehicle button" which prompts your partner to do it instead.

It doesn't have much replay value after that. Its something cool to show your friends who aren't into video games, as the facial animation is totally convincing. Sadly, I didn't sell it well enough to people as it plays like a boring movie, so I ended up trading it in for the Witcher 2.

Still.. it was an amazing game.

I was thinking last night that it could have really benefited from random encounters like in RDR. For example you see some guy running along the street with a woman's purse, and you tackle him, or you see a beat cop talking to a couple of people about an assault, and you have to talk to bystanders or gather evidence to find out which guy started it.

Or maybe sometimes cars will do something suspicious and you have to turn your sirens on to start a chase sequence or something.

I don't think it needed minigames like gambling or anything, it just needed more to do other than the main story and side missions (which were a bit short, they need to be fleshed out a little more).

Also random shops being held up, more secrets around the map, maybe some races, etc etc, it just seemed like they had this HUGE map to do things with, but didn't really capitalise on it.

I was talking to a friend about the ending a couple days back.

Spoiler
He thinks that Cole survived in the sewers, and he drew this from the fact that his body is never shown. I don't think this is viable, as it would have been mentioned. Besides, it was supposed to be Noire. Still, I thought this was an interesting theory.

I think that if there is a sequel, they'll either take that angle, or just have you play as Kelso.

Spoiler
Though again, I though it was a really stupid decision to make you play as Kelso for the majority of the climix (bar a chase and an investigation), and then have Phelps die.

My review of the game, theres no spoilers, just kind of long.
Spoiler
This is a Review for L.A. Noire on the Xbox 360

Premise - The game is set in 1947 Los Angeles and you play the role of Cole Phelps, an LAPD detective. You conduct interrogations, arrest criminals, and investigate crimes and crime scenes. This game also features the latest in motion/face capture technology and features real actors playing the PC and the NPCs.

Gameplay - The game is centered on solving cases and stopping criminals. A lot of your time will be spent looking for clues at crime scenes and interrogating witnesses and suspects. The evidence gathering is very hands on and features close ups of each item you pick up with stunning detail. The interrogations are equally detailed and nuanced and can be quite challenging. These mechanics are well-polished, but can get a little repetitive. Every case features the same, gather all evidence, interrogate people, formula, but is broken up with car and foot chases, or good 'ol fisticuffs, but these mechanics do also get repetitive as well since they are featured at least once in every case. Aside from the cases, there is also street crimes. Street crimes vary from suicidal jumpers to bank robbers to hostage situations and everything in between. These offer a nice break from the main case your on and are each semi-unique. My favorite involved a guy wearing a pot on his head and yelling at pedestrians. There is also the gunplay which is polished and simple enough, point and shoot (theres an option to skip the gun parts if you die on them a certain number of times, but this feature can be turned off). All in all, the game plays nicely.

Story - This game is the first of its kind when it comes to storytelling, featuring real facial expressions and emotion. It is a truly gripping thing just to interrogate someone or speak to a grieving next of kin. The story in very complex and sometimes hard to understand, luckily you have a trusty notebook to keep you in order. My favorite thing to do was find a newspaper, which played a little cut-scene that told a story about an up-coming case. There are 13 of these newspapers and they all tie into a great narrative within a narrative.

Graphics - The game looks great with minute detail on evidence and a 90% accurate recreation of 1947 LA. The most stunning thing is the facial animations, which I mentioned before, every little smile and eye twinge displayed realistically and strikingly. There is no game which matches this level of realism. Also, I never ran into the same old house or bar. Each building you go to is unique, and there is a huge number of unique set-pieces, something you don't see a lot of in modern games.

Sound - One of the best original soundtracks in recent years, hands down. The voice acting is just phenomenal and I didn't hear the same voice on two different NPCs once while playing.

Bugs - Little to none during my playthrough.

Replay - This is one of the games biggest flaws, replay is kind of killed when you already know the outcome of every case. Players will have to wait for DLC to add more meat to the game.

Overall - Despite the lack of replayability and the somewhat repetitive nature of the gameplay, L.A. Noire is a great game. It is a truly unique experience and has conquered one of the great faults of gaming with its realistic portrayal of facial expression. 9/10

After reading the 'little to no bugs' it brought to mind a hilarious bug in the game world. I went to explore the Central Police hospital, and I found a man who was supposed to be in the bed standing, apparently he has no bottom half, so you can imagine the hilarity of seeing a half body in midair.
