Half life story for dummies : Othor Games

I just bought the orange box and am going to play Half-life 2, but I was hoping someone could fill me in on the events of the first game, OR direct me to a good summary of the first games plot. Thanks a million!

You work for Black Mesa, after a lengthy intro something goes wrong, aliens come out of nowhere, they kill scientists, military folk come along, scientists think they're coming to rescue them, but they came to kill you instead... Then you shoot aliens and military folk (and scientists if you like), do some platforming, and end up in an alien dimension for a while until you get recruited by the strange man with the suitcase. The end.

And then you disappear for a while until HL2 starts.

The famed http://hlcomic.com/ also has a synopsis of the original, although it's mainly an, ahem, "retelling" of HL2's story, so avoid if you don't want spoilers; otherwise, it's hilarious.

Just pay attention to subtle things, like snippets of dialogue and such. That's where a lot of the story of the events of between games is told.

Quickly, though, there was a "Seven Hour War" in which aliens (the Combine) came through a portal (which you opened in the first game) and took over Earth. Now it's a totalitarian regime under that guy, Dr. Breen, you see on all those TV screens.

Then you're conscripted into the Resistance movement where violence and great storytelling ensues.
