Economy & Finances

So I have a few questions to finances in the game. :?:

1) It will be Bottlecaps, correct? Or will there be a mix system of Pre-War money/NCR Dollars/Brotherhood Scrips/Legion Denari? If the latter, will there be a floating currency or will it be fix? Will money be dropped by creatures/NPC as well as found in random locations or will you have to trade purely for currency from vendors? Will you be able to 'forge' currency? I.E. Get a Nuka-Cola bottle cap factory running?

I'm assuming Bottlecaps will be the main (possibly only?) currency, if there are others then it would be fixed. I think multiple currencies would be cool, espcially if they could float but I understand the difficulty of probably implenting that and the likely gaming of any such system via speculation and the like.

2) Banking: Will the be guild/clan/gang banks? Will there be NPC-ran central banks that one can deposit valuable in or will storage be similar to that of Ultima online? E.G. Carry all or build a house to protect it that can be robbed. I understand Earthrise also has 'death' insurance, will FOOL implement a similar system? As both games will not have 'death' per se.

3) Crafting/Vending: I assume it will be similar to Earthrise in terms of qualitiy production and certain parts found throughout the map (where ever that may be). Also, will you have to sell to an NPC or an auction house? Is it possible to set up shops, espically guild-based vendors that have the back and protection of said guild with money going back to individuals for a small fee towards the guild bank? Will it be possible for individual vending?

4) If towns are conquerable by any strech, will that result in economic benefits to the victors such as spoils? Image

Well this has been discussed in other threads ;)

But, I think it would be cool if there were several different monies/currencies that one had to deal with.

Has it? Of course it probably has, I did a quick scan but didn't see anything. I'd be fine with just bottlecaps though they'd probably break it up into regular caps, semi-precious and precious caps of some sort. So limited edition nuka caps maybe?? Though this would make more sense in NCR Dolalrs or something. Image

Something i would like to see is an option in a possible auction house is that not only choose the price but also item/s thatyou would be willing to trade it for. So for example a possible buyer who might be short on cash but got the amount of mines you ask, can trade them for your shotgun. It wouldn fit the fallout universe that there be bartering going on.

What wouldn't be Fallout-y would be a global auction house. An auction house's prices and inventory should be confined to the settlement it's located in. I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'

well dont think it would be impossible to get the inventory for auction houses and place a bid in bigger setllements, town., there are radios, some factions computer networks etc. Then you might need to travel to the settlement where your bought item is in order to get it.

Or... you could pay a certain friendly neighborhood mailman to deliver it for you... ;) I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'

Actually, could be an idea. Though I prefer the idea of vendors. To get item X, you have to know local 'merchants' and the like. Build a reputation, it feels more personable than an auction house. I do feel there should be a generic vendor but if you want modified or specialised weaponary/parts, it should be vendors.

I would think something like the Crimson Caravan or something, but I'd really like player-set vendors. I understand earthrise game, thus its engine, allows for a player-driven economy. I think this would be a level of personality and uniqueness that is purely of player creation. Things that are peer-driven often seem more adept than centrally ran things though such centrally run things such as auction houses could aid. But as I suggested, it could be a guild based vendors or fairly well off individuals.

So maybe a way of transporting via a Crimson caravan, Mojave express or a private courier (w.e fluff) could make it possible. Though I don't think that Enclave should be selling to Brotherhood or vice versa.

So I'm still pushing for player driven economy as opposed to WoW-styled auction houses and more intricate ragnarok-like merchants with the ability to build/rent 'shops' in-game. Anyone else? Image

I was actually referring to myself with that. In a world where everything is controlled by players, there's no reason a mail system shouldn't be. I could compete with other player courier groups as well. (See, the basis of my RP will be a ghoul who was a mailman before the war, and is still a mailman today) I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'

Ah excellent. Then I would be all for that. In fact, a person based mail system would be most intriguing and excellent. A User-led service sector within a MMORPG, I like it! I like the background story too. I was hoping to be a gunsmith, a ghoul, a former sergeant in the US military, now with the NCR in hopes of civilisation again.

In order for this to work, you could have an auction house-like system with people offering their cost to bring products to one place, or another. Could be a very good idea indeed! Image

the only currency i think should be caps,at least for general wasteland use.the various factions could have their own currency that you can use in the land they control, like you do when you visit different countries. Image
