Do you "new player tube", aka Grenade Launcher on AR

Post » Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:12 am

Topic/title/poll...

I was jw out of curiosity... does anyone even USE the G Launcher attachment for AR's? I rarely see anyone using it. It seems the Front Grip > IT all day long.

But, i've been tinkering with it on some certain guns, trying certain guns without sights, etc. And it just ran across my mind...

So, do you? And what AR's do you prefer to use it with? DISCUSS!

Jw? What does this mean?

Anyway yes I do have one on my solder/medic. I don't call it cheap simply because all it does is knock you down. And with only the one shot (Unless restored) it’s simply good to get out of them tight situation and run back to your team.

I normally play my Medic or Operative character, so on a good side me running around with a grenade launcher is rare.

Well, I meant the topic to say n 0 0 b tube... but apparently that's a "bad word/cuss word"? Really? Since when is that word bad? wtf...

Just basically seeing if people use it or not. It seems like nobody does.

Jw? What does this mean?

I assume "just wondering."

I sometimes use it on my medium soldier with the improved grenade talents. It's more useful in a pinch when taking the time to cook a grenade isn't as possible. But in general I'm not as big of a fan of the AR 's.

I'm guilty of noob toobin in Brink but to be fair, I don't think it has the same effect as it does in other games with noob tubes so it's not as damning.

There is nothing wrong with using an underslung grenade launcher attachment in Brink since the grenades are actually balanced.

I have it on one of my characters, not particularly over powered since it is replacing your grenade and suffers the same cooldown. Here it's more of a reason to use the AR over the SMG (or a medium over a light) than a simple NT.

All 5 AR's get GL attachments for me. Way I figure it, it's a feature in the game, so it's fair game unless they patch it.

They don't kill anyways, only rip off a large chunk of health. If you keep moving without firing, the knockdown isn't a problem at all.

I use it on some Soldier characters, but only on the Gerund. The Euston needs a foregrip to have any decent amount of stability, and the Rhett doesn't really deserve to have its accuracy punished anymore.

Lol ew, the only guns I dare put speed slings on are Tampa, Kross and Gerund.

QFT.

And people reading this topic, this is not a hate topic towards N0OB tubing... NOR did I even say that it's overpowered/conquering the game/everyone is using it...

All I simply asked was "Do YOU use it?". LOL... you guys took this a lil outta hand. I wasn't saying anything negative about it at all...

Was just wondering if people use it? Like it better then a frag? etc. etc. I myself find it better then a reg frag sometimes. You get a group of guys hurdled around your "VIP" escort, outflank them and just let loose. Knock em all down...!

That's what I find extremely useful about the GL attachment, it knocks down QUITE nicely. Hell, if I may BETTER then a Frag/Lobster does! I just IDK... don't see really ANYONE using it, or can even TELL if people use it...

PLUS, you knock them down you get a PERFECT opening to get your burst shots off with said AR. It's a nasty lil combo that's been working for me quite well...

(Because the "kill" counted for it labels itself as a "Frag" symbol.)

Thus why i'm asking if anyone uses it, I literally cannot tell at all.

And honestly im trying NOT to have all my guns the exact same (Front Grip, Muzzle Break, win.)... trying something different.

@Pangolin, I will agree, but I also don't like losing the extra accuracy/stability I gain on the Gerund... that's ONE AR I will not put it on (next to the Rokstedi/FAMAS).

It's actually not that bad on the Euston if you just use Adjusted Iron Sights. I've been finding myself using AIS on the Gerund alot more now, I just feel so open to what's around me and I feel a lil more accurate..

THIS coming from the guy who could NOT wait until he got the Sights/Scopes unlocked! Now that i've used em all im finding myself go back to AIS on "certain" guns... (Gerund and Rhett as an example...)

You might be reading a little too far into the responses if you think there's much in the way of blowback about its use. But the "no0b tube" label is intended as an insult to those that use it so that might get people a little defensive; it implies "over powered" even if you didn't mean to.

The way to tell is how often the same guy kills you with the instant feeling grenade. I kept getting grenaded earlier and after a little while of going "how does this guy time it so right" it clicked in my head that he must be using the GL.

It could also be grenade shooting which is equally as brutal when used properly.

Eeeww. I still hate the Carb-9.

@Hippnotic even with a GL and high-cap mags, the Gerund still seems to have better accuracy/stability than the Euston or Rhett. That's why I feel it can take a little hit to those stats without suffering too severely.

I have it on one of my weapons as at this point in time the different ARs are set up for different roles (Sneak, LMG, Standard, Grenade) and on a Soldier works really well. Much better for groups than throwing your grenade because they get no warning, but there are still times I switch to my pistol to be able to throw a proper grenade when I have the launcher equipped. I dont think it's really that newby to be honest, the cool down period is quite long even with the time reducer ability, and it's not like in COD where you could shoot, reload really quick, shoot again (spam) and then restock your own ammunition and do it all again within 3-4 seconds, so it even call it a newb tube is wrong really. But I wouldnt go as far as to say it's a pro pipe.

The attachment certainly is powerful, but it really messes up the feel of the Rhett or Gerund in my opinion. Seems to take an extra burst to kill. So I don't use it.

I use it religiously in Brink, because of my AR play style. With the AR, I like to use the "Shock & Awe" approach, especially against 2 or more foes. Anyone who's played with me knows my combat aptitude is pretty damn high, and I often times end up destroying upwards of 5 enemies at once...SPECIFICALLY because of how I use my AR/Nade launcher combo. What I typically do, is engage the enemy at distance, strafing in slowly to minimize my damage. As I get within Nade range, and when I have the enemy's full attention, I uncork one into the crowd and BANG. The guy(s) I started peppering with fire are dead, and anyone in the blast radius is either knocked down with low health or Incap'd. Then I switch over to my handy-dandy Bulpdaum or Kross and finish off the stragglers. Works extremely well against bots and humans alike, because people by instinct try and engage head on. It's all mind games. I make them think I'm gonna just stand there and trade fire with them, then once I see their health below 50%, BOOM...back to the Re-spawn for you.

I am dead serious about the CARB-9 bit. Almost everyone uses it over the ARs.

But on topic, yea I do use the grenade launcher on the Gerund, its great for disrupting clumped up enemies and occasionally the suspicious aim botting-like zig-zagger.
