Tricky question... well maybe not.

*Spoiler Alert*

Alright, I want to get the Legion Safe House key from Lucius so I can get my hands on the lucky shades. But I have a few questions/concerns:

- Is there anyway I can get to The Fort before offing Benny at The Tops and getting the Mark of Legion and passage via the raft? (Good Legion reputation, etc.)
- If there isn't and I have to wait until I get the Platinum Chip from Benny, is there any way I can leave the fort without giving the chip to Caesar? (Can I leave with it without murdering half his guards? Maybe go there, but not actually talk to Caesar, idk?)

Apologies if those questions sound like rambling, I'm basically just asking if there's anyway to get the Safe House Key without having to get negative legion reputation or without having to leave the Platinum Chip at the fort.

*End Spoilers*

If anyone could take the time to answer these or at least share some of their insight, It would be greatly appreciated.

Spoiler
To my knowledge, entry to The Fort is only available once you successfully complete Ring-a-ding-ding.

Yes and no. If you kill Benny at The Tops, you get the chip taken upon arrival to The Fort, speak to Caesar, and accept his task to blow up Mr. House's bunker. You don't HAVE to bomb it. Just activate the securitron army if you are on a House/Yes-Man playthrough.

If you REALLY want the shades, and are on PC, just use the console. If you want the shades by ingame means, do quests for the Legion, get the shades, dike them over. Easy Peasy.

If you leave the fort and give the chip to Ceasar his guard says something like "The chip has to stay here but we will have it waiting for you at the bunker" and you can leave and come back to do the quest later, you just technically don't have the chip anymore.

Keep in mind you can just confront Benny, not necessarily kill him. Should trigger the delivery of the Mark of Caesar. Also, just do Caesar's bidding (or don't, he won't know the difference) and you get the chip on your way out.

Yo, this is totally possible.

I have access to every safehouse because I am a lying, schemer. Once you kill benny (or whatever), you get The Mark, and you can go to the Fort. Once finish the first quest after you talk to him, either by blowing it up or not blowing it up, Cesar with THINK you're done what he wanted and you get the chip back. Now, you'll have to do some CL quests AND exhaust the conversation trees with the guards in his tent, while staying nice to everybody. After you have done a few quests for them, your rep will be high enough to get a key to the safehouse. Once you get the key, they can never take it back, so you can decide to do whatever you want afterwards.
As a note, you will get the key before NCR brands you a terrorist if you have a slightly possitive rep with them before. However, you might want to do some of their quests in between the various CL quests in order to offset the negative rep you might get.
If you balance your actions, you can get all the safehouse keys, no problem.

Another way, if you don't care about your NCR rep, is to take out all the NCR garrisons you come across and hand in the resultant Dog Tags to Aurelius at Cottonwood Cove for cash, XP, and Legion rep. If you do this with a silenced weapon while concealed, you can preserve your NCR rep in the process; since they never figure out who did the killing, you take no rep hits. Wearing faction armor may help here, although I've never tried it.

A slower, but non-hostile, way of doing this is to keep visiting the area between Forlorn Hope and Nelson every few days; there are battles there between the NCR and CL on a regular basis and the dead often have Dog Tags (NCR) or Ears (Legion) you can hand in for rep at Cottonwood Cove and Forlorn Hope, respectively.

Regardless of method, you'll have to advance the main quest past Ring-a-Ding to gain access to the Fort and Lucius in order to 'cash in' on your standing with the Legion.
