Should Certain NCR and CL Weapons be Swapped?

Post » Thu Jun 16, 2011 12:58 am

I was looking around the GECK like I do, and I had another battle between Vets and Cents, and I noticed something. Why do the Vet Rangers have the rickety old lever action while the Centurions have the modern scoped semi-auto carbine? This also got me to think, why do the regular Rangers have Cowboy Repeaters/Trail Carbines and Legionaries get Sniper Rifles (Vexillarius') and 12.7mm SMGs? If you look at NCR Troopers and Recruit Legionaries, the weapon technological difference is clear, the NCR is more modern and uses an AR-15 based weapon, while the Legion is more rustic using a lever action repeater, but, for some reason, they suddenly swap? I want to ask your opinions on this, should the NCR get more modern weapons throughout its ranks, while the Legion gets more rustic weapons?

I am thinking of editing their inventory spawnlist by changing it so that:

NCR Rangers get Assault Carbines or 12.7mm SMGs.
Vet Rangers get the Marksman Carbine.
Higher ranked Legionaries get Trail Carbines.
Centurions get the Brush Gun.

What do you think?

Because the Rangers like to pretend like they are the Rangers of old and so use 'cowboy' weapons to get that across.

I find that it is oddly unfitting insofar that they are supposedly the "modern" force, their armor signifies modernity, and their weaponry does not.

I am also thinking of swapping out the Rangers .357 Revolver with a 12.7mm Pistol?

Christ dude chill, from the crappest side-arm to the best!? Maybe a... 10mm Pistol seeing as how the guys using them either have no armour or will be using a much better rifle anyway.

Ugh, I think Rangers have assault carbines which is better than marskmin carbines...

The Rangers lore is based on the Texas Rangers of old. They prefer big irons on their hip and lever action rifles.

I think there find with all the guns how they are. The Rangers do quite good with the trail carbines, revolvers, and lever action guns.

Yeah, but why are Legionaries using more modern weapons than the NCRs finest?

Rangers don't have Assault Carbines, the only people I've seen to use them are Boomers.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Rangers with Assault Carbines at Camp Golf.

Rangers are just the exception to the rule, the rest of the NCR sticks to carbines. It's just that at the end of the game, the Rangers become more prominent.

As for the Legion, I sort of get a feeling that, by the book, they PREFER easy-to-repair weapons like Hunting rifles and .44 Magnum revolvers, because they don't want to adapt to using a weapon that may not always be around, effectively making themselves weaker when they're forced to fight without it. But for important battles like the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, they understand the importance and impact of using more effective weapons, so they pull them out of the closet for the battle.

Yup, your right, just looked it up though, the spawn chance is pretty freaking low.

A Ranger can use what he/she wants.

The Legion are bold for using guns so much. I wish they'd actually use the throwing spears that are always in their inventory.

I'm more concerned with tactics. Unfortunately this very limited engine can't produce such results

If your enemies with the NCR: I want to see Rangers sniping you. Several squads of NCR troopers hunting for you.

If your enemies with the Legion: I want Legionaries ambushing you with lightning speed completely by surprise, Centurions hunting you and rushing at you with a mad frenzy, able to brush off heavy blows.

etc.

Did you take a Trail Carbine, Brush Gun and .357 Revolver with Cowboy perk? And you call this weapons "weak"? 8O
The .357 revolver deals more damage than any pistol in the game except the 12.7mm pistol, only losing by three points. You have one single devastating pistol (12.7mm pistol) and FOUR devastating revolvers (.44 magnum revolver/Mysterious Magnum, Hunting revolver and Ranger Sequoia), all of them more powerfull than a 12.7mm pistol.
Also, don't forget that in the battle of Hoover Dam the Rangers are equipped with 12.7mm pistols, not revolvers.

And if you really think about, a ranger with a Trail Carbine can shot a legionnarie miles away, without needing the risk to enter in close combat.
The 12.7mm SMG can do this?

Don't forget that Rangers and Veteran Rangers have better armor than Centurions or Veteran Legionnaries.

As far I'm concerned, the Garrand M1 is on par with most modern assault carbines in terms of damage, sometimes even suparsing them.
And is a weapon from WWII.
Heck, the basic operation of most modern rifles are dated from 1870.

The Rangers are pretty much as deadly as they can be. The only thing that would make them better would be:

1. Have them snipe at much longer ranges

2. Arm them with triple barreled 50. caliber Miniguns

I see your point, the bias is too thick here.

It's not bias dude, have you tried killing the Rangers at Camp Golf? It's a world of pain...
