Thoughts... How to make the battle for the Ark, relevent, me

Post » Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:18 pm

Hey guys I just wanted to share with you my thoughts from a thread on the splash damage forums, I have an idea in which I borrowed from MAG sort of... That I think will improve the overall experience in the game making the battle feel more real by placing us all in a persistent world battle. Giving the battle of the Ark more of a real purpose. Here you go...

Also I hope in no way this post comes off as arrogant or anything like that, if it does I am completely sorry.

My original post

Here is my suggestion take the stat site down and then put the same thing in the game but make it virtual... Let people only play the faction they choose and let us have the ability to click on the virtual map that looks like the stat site to enter into the different battlefields to help our side, when you view this map it also tells you how many people are playing in this Map, how many games are going on and the percentage of who is winning Resist or Sec on that area of the map!!! How sick would that be guys... God I hope you guys don't hate this idea and really think about what I am saying here, this could be huge and make the battle for the Ark really feel like it means something

Oh and for the people who will say it might make the faction unbalance blah blah blah, that how real war works! It may happen where there are more of one side than the other, but will still be fun imagine it there where twice as much of one side than the other, but the other faction won more battles and where more bad ass, well guess what, this is how it was in MAG, having a bigger faction doesn't ultimately make you the obvious winner in the battle of the Ark.

And this was my closing argument

I am really disappointed in some of you, why even play online games, you guys should get off the internet, no disrespect. See this is whats wrong with the gaming community, too many care bears, the fact that your saying we should not have a stat tracker that track the online battle is absolutely crazy, what your suggesting completely goes against the story of this game and who give a freak if one side is better or has better players, it happens, someone has to loose in war, the cool part is even if your side is constantly loosing overall, there will always be a great clan on either side, so this concept does not mean you will loose every match! It does not mean you will never level up or anything... Man I am seriously disappointed, that kind of thinking is holding us back, this is the next step in online shooter gaming, persistent world combat! ITS THE BATTLE OF THE ARK FOR CHRIST SAKE! Guys please I am begging you to consider what I am saying, you know what, don't even think about MAG I don't want you guys who don't like MAG to be thinking of that and completely look over this concept that really is need and fits this game so well. There is a way to balance everything I am sure, but one side has to win and one side has to loose guys, come on!

Maybe somehow the bots also have battles going on between themselves while we play to keep this balance and if one side reign supreme for far too long somehow the bots can balance it, I'm not sure but come on guys can you not see how this could make online gaming better? If you love Brink now, all this is going to do is make you feel even more invested in Brink. Also I don't care how good one side is, they most like wont be able to dominate all parts of the virtual map, I am sure they will be stages (like now) Where one faction will do a better job of maintaining control. I mean are you guys seriously at this point not tired of just simply shooting people just to shoot people, the persistence world FPS idea that MAG came up with gives the FPS concept more purpose, please guys rally with me. I got a friend in school right now for game design who believe this is something that can still be implement like I said.

As a matter of fact this concept also fixes the lobby system, (if you guys read the idea I posted here) so this is something they can add in there instead of just making a standard lobby. We just simply take the map from the stat site down and put it in the game and make it interactive.

iramaj had actually suggested this idea in this thread here >>> http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1196666-do-it-like-mag/page__p__17813642__hl__do+it+like+mag__fromsearch__1#entry17813642 theers some counter arguments in there probably

not sure if he went into as much depth as what youre suggesting though,
i really like the idea of the stat site somehow working as a server lobby for active online games/players/ factions....

This is very similar to part of my idea for a true mmofpsrpg... I'm not gonna go further into the idea because I already dropped all the ideas and balance issues to a dev for another game and I think they are going to incorporate it...

I will however list one feature of which I had for the whole "one faction has too many people" issue ... when joining the conquest mode you had a differential limit... as soon as that limit was hit no one could join that faction until it dropped below that level... people would complain about not getting your preference but its a lot better than the thousands of complaints of imbalance you'd get...

That's actually the first thing that popped into my head when I started Brink for the first time and got the option to choose a side. I love the idea -- it would certainly improve the immersion and I'd totally go for it as a separate online mode (I played quite a bit of Chromehounds, so that's my reference) :)

Whether there are enough maps (and, sigh, enough players) to pull this off is a big question, though.

Thank you guys so much for the support, I was hoping you guys would be interested enough in this to maybe help organize a rally for it of some sort, petition or something, if we can get the support of the people upset about there not be a lobby system in here, I think anything is possible, we got to show Bethesda that we won't quit! I am trying to give up on this game but I just can't and I honestly feel with this idea would could both revitalize this game and give the people what they want

good ideas deserve support !!

That being said, i definitely think there are people who will just want to play without aligning themselves to either faction still, sooo maybe if brink had clan/faction support, clans/players would have to be aligned to resistance / security and you could have a clan stat site being seperate from the regular stat site could be a way for people to organize tournaments /matches / etc..... that way you would'nt eliminate the casual players who could potentially later down the line enjoy the game on a deeper level.

i'm just posting this as an idea extension to what you're proposing cause i know the community will most likely be split on this....best way is to support both the existing and the advanced version.

so basically keep the stat site as is for the casual players....update it with the awesome map/lobby system if possible.

then implement a similar stat site which has everything you mentioned as well as faction alignment / clan matches / active games / lobbies /etc...

OK bro I see where you are going with this and I think I like and understand, so lets say Brink has two Major modes, mode 1: Battle for the Ark (the type of gameplay I suggested also with clan support etc...) and mode 2: Casual mode, the version of Brink we have now.

EXACTLY.....

now that you mention it "battle for the ark" mode has a nice ring to it doesnt it?
This way single players can join without a clan as well, from battle for the ark mode they have to first decide which faction to side with ....the same goes for people joining as a clan. then that way you can still have drop in drop out 8v8 games , as well as clan matches etc... but the stat sites would be representative of people playing on a more serious level.

in general this would be good for SD as well to get level / weapon balance feedback from people who play the game less casual.
