PV13: Playable races and choosing factions?

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 5:16 am

I have looked over the forums and haven't had any real luck with this. I was wondering if there is going to be a real choice in races and factions. I can see a possibility for these ranging from Humans to Super Mutants and NCR to Enclave. If they did plan to do this I'm sure Bethesda would shit twinkeys but that doesn't mean gamesas wont (it hasn't stopped them before). So has there been any conformation on what, if any, races and factions will be available in the final product? Thanks to all who can give any information!

I think the world will be run by player-made factions. Not to say that there won't be any NPC factions. They'll just be a small part of the game. I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'
Wait, what?

I disagree Mad for the reason that all the single player games are ran by those factions that massive parts of the game NCR,BOS,Enclave,Legion,Slavers all NPC factions but i dont see player factions playing any bigger roles then just guilds possibly you might be able to create a small faction of mercnearies, slavers, or merchants I dont see player made factions being able to have their own cities or anything like that.

The only game that i know that even allows players to have their own cities is AO and the cities arent even really important just for guilds to hangout and sometimes have wars at each other cities but the core game is ran by NPC factions because no matter players would not be able to create their own missions and things is impossible Image

Well, considering how the engine is built for a player-run sandbox with a player-run economy, PC-faction controlled territories, constructable buildings, and customizable PC-faction bases, I'd say player factions would play a huge part in this game as well. It'd be a waste not to use those things as those are what the engine is built-upon.

Yes, I think that those NPC factions will be there. No, I don't think that they'll be a principal part of the game. I put the 'Skill' in 'Kill.'
Wait, what?

I don't see why both can't be true.

I don't doubt there will be the story drivers, and the tidal force of factions battling it out. Simple fact is in the beginning there won't be any player made cities. Where do we start? NPC towns. Beginning quest lines to level up? help protect the city from Raiders. In this instance lets say it's Shady Sands.

You have the option to join the raiders, Kill the raiders or negotiate with the raiders. But Fallout has always had the player have an impact when they move through the world so I have no doubt there will be player controlled cities.

Don't think of it just as a place to hang out There's far more that could be done with them:

Could be outposts for strategic PvP or frontier towns on the edge of ultra high level areas, last chance to restock or heal.

They could be market places or stops on Caravan routes.

You could have faction wars against your city: Say you built too close to a raiders outpost or another fledgling outpost, You could forge alliances or raid them, or pay them not to raid you.

you could ally your city with a NPC faction like the NCR and for paying taxes you could get Guards from them to patrol your area, or protect your caravans...

Cities and factions, Both player and NPC, add alot to the game if done right. I see no reason why both can't coexist and add flavor to the game if done right.

Well my question is how does one construct a city on an MMorpg, Zone control sure planetside had a good system for that but you were never able to construct your own building in any game i know other then Anarchy Online and that was just for guild stuff it had no other purpose and it was already premade cities.

As for players having an effect on the world sure but i doubt it will be anything severe, someone decides to nuke a city thats player controlled, players inside the city not knowing anything about it or having anything to do with it would all be slaughtered noobs or experienced. Things not being looked at are Fallouts have all been single player so no matter what your not going to have the same Domination thing with just yourself or even a guild of players.

Games like planetside were all out war all the time and factions could control zones but only NPC factions, it was up to the players that joined those specific factions to take territory. Image

I'd bet my next year's pay that the established factions are going to take a minor role in FOOL.

If nothing else, Iply isn't going to risk given Beth's lawyers any more ammo.

If you ask me, this is a good thing. The old factions are worn and dried out. They've been bastardized to hell only for the sake of having them in the games.

Just look at the BoS. There are three (four if you count tactics) different BoS with different idealogies, only for the sake of keeping them in the game as a major plot element.

Well if FOOL will take place in the US how do you just take out the dominating factions. Suddenly enclave are nobodies and Joe sixpack and his merried men are the new force to reckon with. ;)
Either make FOOL take place right after the nukes fell so enclave, BoS, NCR etc never had the time to be created or so far in the future that those factions could have naturally destroyed themselves. For me the factions are a large part of the universe that is Fallout not only the post-nuclear environment, it would be like playing a fantasy game without elves or dwarves.

I say let the original factions be but if not major force have guilds be their "armies". So ones guild is part of Enclave or BoS.

They will certainly be a major role, you dont just cut them out of the games that were based entirely around them. Besides ive never played a top MMo that had players control everything its impossible and not logical. As for players and guilds, id say they wont reach anymore effectiveness then in WoW because thats all you can do with them, maybe if your lucky as hell they will add the ability to buy a premade city like in Anarchy Online but i highly doubt it.

Besides by the time the game comes out the damn lawsuit should be done and if they won they will already have the game ready for release and if they lost then it wont be made by them at all. Image

Why not call them networks.

These are people/individuals whom you have contact with in life (in game life in Fallout).
These networks (contacts) are not so much like the Alliances of other games but more of whom you bubby up with, whom both have agreed to have contact with (like facebook friends) and with the right setting on your interface, will back you up in a firefight (auto follow or auto defend or such) and can give you bonuses if you are in their area of control/influence (like bartering bonuses, command/morale bonuses, etc {got the idea from Fallout Tactics} )
