Opinion on DLC Achievements/Trophies

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 4:27 pm

So far on the DLCs that have been released the main 2 Achievments/Trophies have been finish the game to a certain ending and get an achievment or trophy for it.
Personally I would much rather see having 1 for just beating the DLC, not ending specific. Then have the other 1 for finding all locations (HH) or finding out the survivalist's story (HH) or Deans secret stash (DM) or even for levelling (although I know a lot just want to stay at 30) or some other thing.
My reasoning for just wanting the 1 achievment/trophy is because I personally would be more likely to build another character and choose the other ending rather then in my case choosing an ending that fits my character and how I want to play, saving at that point, play the ending I don't want, then reload and play the ending I do want.
Any Thoughts?

I think you're right about the multiple ending situation, seeing how not everyone plays more than one character. But I like the way they handle their trophies/achievements other than that.

It's the only problem I've had with the achievments, I just find it leads to the old RPG problem of play the MQ and put down the controller till next time, because a lot of people do play for achievments and trophies. Why not open up one for exploring the content and playing it to it's extent

Why do you need an achievement or trophy to explore the content and playing it to it's extent? You should be doing that regardless of A's and T's.

I like the multiple ending trophies they kinda give people an incentive to play again which is a lot of the appeal of the game going through again and changeing how you completed quests, discovering all the locations always seemed like a cop out trophy to me like they couldn't think of anything else.

The point I was trying to make is some people dont, they get their acheivments and leave. I just think it would end a lot of peoples woes who missed something and aren't able to go back and do it like in DM or how you cant have access to all charaters like in HH. I also think it would cut down on topics after a release that it was to short and wasnt worth the money

Technically you don't need more than one character, you just need more than one save for that one character.

Though in all honesty, I don't see a problem with the acheivements. Maybe it's just me but I play for the sake of playing, then worry about acheivements/trophies after it's beaten to a bloody pulp. :toughninja:

Why would someone play a game like New Vegas just for Trophies, does it really matter that much?
No matter what they do with Achievements in downloadable content there will always be people complaining about the content.

Surprisingly, a lot of people think they do. I know theres a particularly large competitive group full of people with 100k+ Gamerscore, and a vast quantity of those people either rent/buy games for the sake of getting acheivements/trophies.

Complete quest x, get achievement y. That's my problem. You don't have to go out of your way to get them.
What I want is stuff like "blow up 5 people with a single explosion" or "get three non-vats headshot kills in 5 seconds".
Call of Duty really nailed those.

Yeah, I suppose challenges like those would be fun to do.

I think achievements are a console abomination and should be left to rot. Good lord, people playing a game solely to get a text message about how they just completed a quest?

Before anyone starts, the whole, it doesn't hurt you so why would you want it gone nonsense. It does cause grief. From creating bugs, to simply taking the time of programmers. I'd much rather have 1 or 2 additional quests over those "achievements".

I agree honestly, I'm a console gamer and could care less about trophies/acheivements if it means more quests.

Achievements don't really away from any of that and are designed after the fact >_>

So are dlc. In theory. Also, it wouldn't change the possible bugs they introduce.
