Nathan Hale. Profligate. Terrorist. Freedom Fighter. Nathan was born in the year 2254 to Thomas and Rosa Hale in the small town of Nipton near the California-Nevada border. Growing up, Nathan was a clever, witty, intelligent boy. He spent many hours in the Nipton Town Hall, reading books from the old world. His favorite were those which were about U.S. History. He loved to read about the heroes who fought against the British, freeing the United States to carve out their own destiny. He loved the soldiers of the world war, apparently the 2nd one, which sacrificed it all to preserve liberty in the world. He looked up to the soldiers who marched into Anchorage, who kicked out the evil Chinese, and retook American soil from the hands of the Reds. These were men he knew he wanted to be like. He wanted Freedom for all people. He wanted Democracy.
As a teenager, Nathan would often make long travels into the New Vegas area with his father. Although he never got to enter the ruins of the empty, decaying but yet somehow magnificent city, he got to see what life was like in the surrounding area, and took compassion on those surrounding the city. His father, Thomas, was a traveling merchant who had married a Brotherhood scribe by the name of Rosa Franklin. The Brotherhood frowned upon the marriage, but since the codex permitted a member to leave, they had no choice but to let Rosa leave. Eventually, the wounds began to heal, and the Hale family maintained friendly relations with the Brotherhood, an honor not many in the wasteland could attain. As a result, Nathan took a stunning interest in the Brotherhood’s documents on American history. There he was able to learn even more. His knowledge impressed the Brotherhood members, and they eventually began to treat Nathan like an adopted son. They taught him how to use energy weapons, how to repair technology, how to hack computer terminals with lighter security settings. Nathan befriended the Brotherhood, and as a result he learned many things, not just about history, but about the world around him as well. He learned of the Enclave, and secretly, he wasn’t totally opposed to the Enclave’s desire to restore America, he just didn’t approve of their methods of course. That’s something he would never speak aloud, obviously. He also learned of a Democratic nation to the west, one called the Brotherhood called, the “NCR” or New California Republic. At first, the thought of a Democracy in the wasteland excited Nathan. He was only 14 years old, but he was far past his years in knowledge. However, as he began to study this “NCR” he noticed things he didn’t like about them. Things that just didn’t seem right. They had poor control of their land, their own citizens weren’t even safe. They couldn’t even feed all their people. Many, many went hungry, and yet, they were still trying to expand? This didn’t seem right to him. How can they claim to model themselves on the pre-war United States when they can’t even protect their own people, while at the same time, trying to bring more people in. This seemed more like an empire than a democracy. Whoever this “NCR” was, Nathan had a problem with them. However, they were far away and didn’t seem like much of a threat to a 14 year old boy. Nathan continued to train with the Brotherhood.
In the year 2270, when Nathan was just 16 years old, his father asked him to carry a package to a man waiting for him by the Colorado River near an old town by the name of Searchlight. He father wouldn’t give him much information on the job, only that it was to be given to a man named Edward Sallow, although he stated it was unlikely the man himself would meet him there. Along the way, Nathan noticed a man being ambushed by a group oddly dressed men in skirts attacking someone he clearly recognized as a Nevada Desert Ranger. Nathan counted 8 men, and he almost had the urge to run away entirely, but the guilt overcame him. He decided he would help the man. Taking a scoped laser rifle that the Brotherhood had given to him for his 16th birthday, Nathan took aim from a nearby ridge at the men. He quickly dispatched 3 of them, only to have 3 of the men rush his position while 2 more stood back and put automatic rifle fire on his position. Nathan quickly tried to retreat, but the men were already on top of him. He began to wonder what he had got himself into. But Nathan fought. He was able to dispose of the two of the men, when the third got a lucky punch in right to the jugular. Nathan ended up on his back. The oddly dressed man above raised his spear, and right as he was about to thrust it into Nathan’s heart, he heard the sound of magnum pistol spitting it’s round threw the air. The man in the skirt shrieked in pain , and fell to the ground, dead. The desert ranger approached Nathan, helped him to his feet, and commended him on his bravery. Two weeks later, Nathan, was a Ranger.
He spent the next 10 months fighting the odd men in the skirts, knowing very little about them, but his laser rifle disposed of them with relative ease. The only problem was, is that there always seemed to be more of them than there were Rangers. One day, in 2271, the men in the skirts, whose name had been revealed to be “Legion” had encircled Nathan’s camp near an old outpost just across the California border, only a few miles away from his hometown of Nipton. The Rangers fought valiantly, sending many of these so called Legion members to an early grave, but they just couldn’t stop the large amount of numbers. The Legion overran their position, and all hope seemed lost, when all of a sudden, a large number of troops dressed in black armor very similar to his own came from behind him. They devastated the Legion forces, and sent the Legion running. His life had been spared. Nathan was very grateful. For the moment.
It wasn’t long before he realized who these men were. NCR. And it wasn’t much longer before he realized what they wanted-the Dam. And, eventually, he presumed, New Vegas. Nathan was grateful that they saved him yes, and they seemed like civilized enough people, but he knew that he couldn’t trust them completely. They were there to take advantage of the Desert Rangers, and the New Vegas area, in a weak moment. So, later that year, when the Desert Rangers signed a “treaty” with the NCR, Nathan couldn’t bare to stomach it. He left the New Vegas area, vowing never to return, and headed north, even going so far as into Canada before even coming back down into the Mojave area…it was then he needed some caps, so he took a job, to deliver a package, directly to the New Vegas strip, an area he hadn’t been to in 10 years..and so it begins..
I plan on filling in those 10 extra years in between with something...I just don't what yet...perhaps a FanFic or something..
