The Female Courier and the Legion

Post » Mon Jun 20, 2011 2:14 pm

As we all know, the Legion is what the world we be like if the boys on the playground kept their "lets beat the crap out of each other with sticks and play make-beleive" and "girls have cooties" mentality and decided to make a nation based on those beliefs. But enough stabbing at Legion fans, here's my real question, why can a female courier work with the Legion? The Legion makes women slaves by force and the most they can hope for is to become priestesses in Caesars cult of personality or become a high ranking officers wife, otherwise it's carrying an over-stuffed backpack worth of stuff and being forced to breed the next generation of brainwashed cannon fodder by the current generation of brainwashed cannon fodder. Being a woman in Caesar's Legion svcks, you have no rights and your only forced to be a pack brahmin or breeding stock, why would the female courier help them and why would they even allow her to help them? Doesn't it go against their sixist ideals? Shouldn't helping the Legion be a male only thing? The only downside to being a female courier in the Legion seems to be your cannot fight in the lackluster arena.

What are your thoughts on this?

Because the Courier is not a part of The Legion's society.

They enslave males too, nipton is a good example for that.

As for letting a female work for the legion, the female won't ever truly be of any rank within the legion as a male or female. So they treat both the male and the female courier as the same, not truly part, but an outsider who does wisely to follow the legion.

I look at it the same way as what happened with Melissa. They tell you you'll be a valued ally and be the exception, when it's actually quite likely that you'll eventually end up another slave.

Oh come on, you have no choice but to join the Legion or die, even if your allied with Caesar he'll stab you in the back. Which is probably the fate of the idiot female courier who helps him, being forced to join and being made a slave.

All the more reason to stab him first.

Just because they believe in a "Join us or die" way of life, doesn't mean they cant use an outsider to their own ends, male or female. A member of the legion can not readily walk into NCR controlled places while the Courier can.

I know they enslave males as well and the strong are made legionaries, but Caesar's Legion is a patriorical society where the men have more freedom and are allowed actual rights. And the Legion will abosrb all others into it's society, why is the courier exempt?

I wondered this too but since the Courier is pretty much a [censored] superhero I'm guessing they'd rather not try to break a female courier. She got shot in the head, got up, tracked the man down across a desert and wasted him in his own home. Superhero.

But both the Legion and the NCR use spies to keep an eye on their enenmies, by the end of it all the courier would be a known enemy of the NCR and that use is now taken away. And yes believing in a join or die policy on dealing with outsiders means eventually the outsider will be forced to join or die.

That is true, however, for the duration of the story in which the game takes place, the legion is using the courier till they are no longer useful, which is till they control the dam or you die.

So really a female courier helping the Legion is just an absolute moron?

Honestly I can't / won't go too indepth due to bordering on forum baned subject.
However basically they allow the player to have their cake and eat it.
If they baned female gamers or male playing female gamers from the legion or imposed the proper restrictions that the faction would should have it'd be be harmful to the games image ( I think no facts whatsoever supplied.)

So while possible it does reek of wibbly wobbling on the canon behind the legion.
Leaving it up to the player to decide whether a female courier would side with the legion in the first place entirely.

I was merely showing the level of blind obediance Caesars Legion calls for, the very way they say it speaks volumes, the are brainwashed, in fact, they are HAPPY to be brainwashed, my post was a metaphor for the simple life they live and to show how some people, male or female, could appreciate that.

TL;DR: Ave, True to Caesar. :tops:

That's the way i see it, to be blunt. Also she has to be pretty stupid (or naive) to even take up Caesar's invitation to the Fort, which i only take if my faction of choice requires the surprise under it ;)

But the Legion are sixist, slaving, murderers, how does banning a female courier from playing Legion create a bad image? It's already cemented in the Legions ideals and they aren't the good guys either.

I think that sums it up
We know the Legion lies to temporary allies
I can't think of any reason for a female character to serve Caesar. They don't even pay well
Thats why when I do my legion playthrough I'll be playing a male character for a change

Why was Joan of Arc exempt from the patriarchal rules of France in the 1400's? Caesar recognizes the Courier's skill is more then sufficient to warrant an exemption.

With a female courier your value as an engine of of ultimate destruction far out weighs your value as breeding stock. And the process of breaking you would probably kill far more legionaries then you could breed in your lifetime

Real life banning of a path due to six / sixual preference in game.
VS in game implied ( overtly ) sixism, not held up except via references, no actual penalty to player, or player choice based on six.

It's a matter of saying to a real person you can't do this in game because of your six.
And saying the fictional characters would treat your fictional PC in a way so appalling but not actually doing so based on your PC's six.
Hence best of both worlds.
A female player, or male playing female can run around for the legion and dream up a slap dash reason why they can.
At the same time the legion can be shown as to how they treat everyone else not player controlled.
So IRL a player is not penalised but also the faction remains what it is, just not towards the player.
Requiring a mcguffin on behalf of the player to explain how, what, why, rather than enforced banning of a group of gamers.

I'd like to think they fear and respect the courier, regardless of six
And hell, they should. By the end of the Legion quest you've done things not even an army of legionnaires could achieve

It should not work. The only reason it does is because it has to.

CL sees women as nothing more than breeding stock according to wiki and all its knowledge. They have a few women that take care of children, and they are a little higher classed slaves so says wiki.

The rest of the women are nothing more than breeding stock and six toys so says wiki, and the game backs that up.
So them doing anything but turning a female into a six slave is not how they operate. What ever is in Houses bunker is not that important. A female courier should have to walk around the fort with a really big back pack.

CL having women work for them is like if bos started giving tech away to all the people of the wasteland for free.

The Courier (Male or female) is not a part of the Legion's society. There lies the difference.
