After playing Oblivion for so many years I decided to go out and buy Fallout: New Vegas for Xbox 360. I've never played before and I was wondering if there's anything I should be aware/ look for. Some tips would just be nice.

Watch out for these massive gates you'll eventually come across...

They lead to a... horrible place...

With fetch quests... that last hours.... which must be completed in a large area... with only one fast travel point...

dont walk north if youre a low level....... and save alot

Hang around the Goodsprings area for a little while, You can get some valuable experience there. After that you can slowly work your way outside the Goodsprings area, you will then come upon Primm. Without spoiling too much, I would recommend watching your ass around there.

Hard core mode and very hard, baptism by fire my friend.

Pump lots of points into Repair, lots and lots. Get Hand Loader perk at level 6 (need 70 repair) and you can make hand load ammo for .357 and .44 magnum rounds, .45-70 gv't ammo and .308 rounds. They do a lot more damage then your basic ammo. Repair, Guns and Speech.

Remember that your actions may have consequences down the line.

1. Save often and have multiple saves. (2-3 per playthrough at least.)

2. As Swag said, know that your actions have consequences. Factions and some settlments react to how you treat them.

3. Most enemies are "locked" to their level. Thus venturing into some places, while at low levels, will most likely end in death. Pay attention to what people tell you, as you'll typically get warned of these areas beforehand.

Don't know if you're using a PC or a console but:

• Hold down the button that opens the Pip-Boy to turn it's light on.
  
• Hold down the reload button to holster weapon.
  
• You move faster in light armour/clothing with a holstered light weapon or no weapon than in heavier armour carrying a heavier weapon.
  
• The value of items is determined by their weight to caps ratio.
  
• There is no time element in the quests, do them at your own pace (although sometimes future actions may effect half done quests).
  
• Really search the Goodsprings area, you can leave with really good early game weapons and armour.
  
• Sell your surplus stuff often.
  
• You can store things in the dumpsters outside the store.
  
• Talk to every character you can and listen to what they say.
  
• If you quit hacking a terminal after 3 tries you can retry.
  
• When lockpicking look at the position of the bobby pin on the outside of the lock, it makes the next attempt easier.
