American Pickers

Post » Wed Jun 22, 2011 1:30 am

I live 15 minutes away from Leclaire, Iowa. Where the American Pickers live, and my grandma lives in Leclaire. It's been really strange seeing people from where I live on the History Channel.

So my question is, How many of you watch this show?

I have seen parts while flipping channels. The guys on the show annoy me, so I don't stay for long.

I enjoy it. There's a lot of interesting history behind the stuff they dig up.

Pawn Stars is better IMO though.

Naah. The taller guy is obnoxious. Pawn Stars is pretty much all I watch on History Channel. With all the "2012: Doomsday" things and "Ancient Astronauts".

I like American Pickers, but with the popularity of the show I'm not sure that they have actually helped others who do the same thing but don't have their popularity.
The point I'm trying to make is that when folks are approached by an individual looking for things to buy, those who have seen the show might have a tendency to be a little more wary and think their stuff is worth more than it actually is.
There are people who have done the same thing for years, and now they might be viewed as "one of them pickers like I seen on TV"...and be viewed with a little more wariness...
It may depend on the average pickers attitude, but I'll bet there is a certain percentage who view them with contempt for the reasons I've mentioned. Their bread and butter has gone mainstream and it either handicaps or helps them, depending on their attitude.

The secret is to buy "junk" and sell "antiques".

It's alright, but the two guys kind of annoy me. I much prefer Pawn Stars.

The losers on Pawn Stars are the ones that run with the cash and blow it on the Vegas Strip.

FAIL!

that show is kind of corny, those two guys say dumb stuff that is obviously for the reason that they have a camera pointed at them. its okay, but I don't really watch it. but then again, I don't watch tv any more so...

Man, these shows are horrible, we get them on TV here and they're really just crap; Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, some show about Alaskan pilots, another about gold prospectors.
I can't stand any more of them!

I really enjoy the show. Though, I find the skinnier guy to be a bit of a story teller.

I preferred it when the history channel was the hitler channel. At least then it was about history.

I've tried to get into this show, but I just don't like it personally. I understand what they do however it feels like they trespass on people's property to steal from them even though they pay for the stuff they get. Pawn Stars I like cause it's people coming in to get rid of their stuff and the people at the shop give them an offer for that item.
