Release of Firefox 5 and browser wars

Post » Wed Jun 22, 2011 6:06 am

So with the official release of Firefox 5 later today I am wondering if there is a second browser war at hand. It seems like every developer is bringing new releases faster and faster. Firefox 4 is only released since a month or 5 and even Internet Explorer is being developed faster and faster (for the people who don't have the older XP OS).

So I'm wondering what's going on? Are they fighting for online domination once more?

Oh, and btw, what browser are you using?

....Firefox 5?!?!?

Yeesh.

As for me, I use Firefox 3. I finally tried 4 last month, and almost immediately switched back - couldn't stand the changes they made to 4, all the junk they did to make it tab-centric (I really don't like tabs), along with the visual changes (the "no frame, floating glass window" thing) and the annoying alterations to menus (like the way the bookmarks menu didn't truncate long bookmark names anymore). When I hit the point that I was downloading the third addon to "fix" the changes they made, I realized I was being silly and should just keep using 3.

I use Firefox 4 since I can't stand IE anymore and only use IE when it really necessary. :iluvff:

I'll get Firefox 5 asap. :D

I use Chrome and Opera for Android

I have no interest in Firefox since Chrome surpasses it in almost every aspect. (I have to admit that Firefox has more addons, which is a good thing)

I use Firefox 4.0.1 on all of my main computers. I probably am not going to jump to Firefox 5 for a while.

Yeah Firefox is changing their version numbering, going quickly from 4 to 5 to 6, because higher numbers obviously means it's better. :P

Still using Firefox 3.6, and with no intention to change (I don't like the Chrome stylings of the newest FF.)

Chrome is a nice browser - when they get a bookmark sidebar similar to Firefox then I will consider switching. In the meantime I use Firefox (7.0a1) Nightly as my default - it is fun to see the new stuff that may be coming and it is stable enough not to give any problems.

Have been using Firefox for years and probably not going to switch anytime soon. I'm loving the addons, as well.

Same.

I have Firefox 4 on my laptop because I wanted to try it out, but it didn't do anything impressively new enough to make switching up worthwhile.

Haha!

So this new update is like a small 4.1 update then?

I use Firefox. Chrome is too minimalist for me, I like having all my Firefox add-ons.

Browsers aren't getting better, it's just that browser devs forgot the importance of proper versioning.

I have no idea how big it's going to be exactly, but I doubt that going from v4 to v5 would by anything like going from v3 to v4 was.

Using the latest Firefox at the moment, though I am prone to change and have had a dabble with just about every mainstream browser out there.
