wow i wish i was neutral with the legion...

So quite some time ago I had Boone in my party and he went and started killing Legion. In no time at all, I was vilified. I tried several console commands to try to remedy this, but to no avail. I got Caesar's mark, but now I feel rushed, like I've been forced to progress faster than I'd prefer.

Does anyone know any way to repair your relationship with a bunch of skirt-sporting chauvinistic slaver scum? I am willing to cheat, so accepting all comers!

I don't think there is a way to do that, short of starting a new character. You play on PC, so there might be, and if not, you could probably use the construction set to mod Legion disposition.

Since you have the mark go see Caesar. They'll ignore that you are vilified with them. But you must see Caesar first. Don't wander the Fort exploring until after you speak to Caesar.

However, it makes completing any of the NCR quests difficult, especially the one where you help retake Nellis. I still haven't figured out a way to do it without becoming vilified by the Legion again. Though I do have plans on destroying the Legion I'd like to still do some of their quests.

That's the point of Caesar's Mark (the NCR does the same thing near that point in the game too). It resets your rep back to Neutral to give you one chance to change w/out penalty. So fire Boone & grab another companion if you want to ignore the "main quest" and stay Neutral w/the Legion for awhile longer. eg, don't rush. Boone/the game makes it pretty clear from the start that he's anti-Legion, imo. "Let's go hunt Legion together" and his wife was taken by Legion slavers etc.

But the game does make it far too easy to initially become Vilified by any faction, imo.

Tell me about it, On this playthrough I went from having no rep with the Powder Gangers to villified after killing only one of them. I was still in Goodsprings then.

So your saying the factions should be ok with the first couple of murders?

That's what happens to me every time from day one. I'm fairly convinced it's a bug or something, since the other factions require at least...oh, say, three. ;)

It's ridiculous that they even can "know" about the murders most of the time. I killed everyone who could report back to the "faction" that it was me who killed them all. But beyond that...gameplay wise, for a new player who has no clue what side is up or down, killing 3 people and becoming Vilified is far too fast. I think it should be more like 10 or 15, or based a lot more off the quests vs. just the self-defense killing of npc's. The Powder Gangers, for instance, fire at you first. There's not even a period where they're blue/neutral like with the Legion & the NCR.
