Hello Forum, Do you think it is better to get Fallout New Vegas on Steam or get it on disc and connect it to Steam?

It depends on the speed of your Internet connection

So if my internet speed is medium- pretty fast, but not super fast, what would i get?

I advise you to download it directly from Steam, unless having the game box interests you.

You can get the box cheaper, unless you're willing to wait for a Steam sale.

With a quick check: from my favorite webstore: 25€. From Steam: 50€

There really is none. Both the disc and the Steam version are completely similar, the disc version is just basically a Steam backup printed on disc.

The only difference is you only need to download the patches and DLCs if you buy the disc version, if buy from Steam you have to download everything (the first time, you can create a backup yourself after that).

steam would easier because of updates and what not. but also having the steam overlay on a game like this is extremely helpful. If i want to find something or learn about something in the game real quick, i can just pop up the overlay and google it. otherwise you would have to exit the game. also for the steam version you don't have to worry about losing the disk, you'll always have the game right there on your account! and i guess another pro is that you can just buy it so easily because it's right there so there's no hassle. for the cd, i guess there's the novelty to it, along with being able to let people barrow it without your account(wouldn't recommend giving someone your account info).

I bought the disc version because I like hard copies and it was financially viable like Tojka said. Functionally once you've installed it, it runs the same as it would from Steam anyway, meaning autoupdates, tracking achievements, etc, so the only decision is whether you like a physical copy or not. Because it authenticates via Steam you don't need to keep the disc around unlike Fallout 3, which is nice.

That's not entirely true. I bought the CE on disk and when I tried to install it from the disk thinking it was a "Steam Backup" on disk. Steam opened up as soon as I popped the disk in and asked for my CD key. When I entered the CD key it started DLing the game from Steam on not from the disk. In fact, I was able to take the disk out and put it back in the box. It literally took 12 hours to DL FO:NV. Every time I buy a game off of Steam I generally have to wait to DL it on a Saturday morning to play on Sunday.

Same thing goes for the updates, I update Friday evening to play Saturday morning.

weird. Anyhow I'd vote disc. Probably could get it cheaper. Also installing it tends to be less painful. If you mess with mods that can come in real handy

That has happened to me occasionally too. I just cancel that install and restart it from the disc to get it to install from the disc. It has sometimes taken few tries, but i've never had to download it when i have the disc.
