Building a Desktop

Post » Mon Jun 27, 2011 4:51 pm

Can you guys help me find parts online for a new desktop? I want it to be a good gaming one that hopefully costs less than a grand. Unfortunately I don't believe I have any components already, maybe I have a keyboard, but that might be it.

Thanks in advance.

You say you have a keyboard, do you have a mouse and monitor to go with it? If not, what is a good size monitor for you?

A mouse is easy enough to get. I'm not very familiar with monitors, but my laptop is 17" and pretty good, but what do you use if you have one?

I just use my 37" TV as a computer monitor, it works well enough. But when dealing with monitors strictly for PCs, I prefer about a 21.5"-23" one. 1920x1080 of course.

Okay, I'll look into that. I need more help deciding on a video card and the real hardware though.

Hmm. So you need a system with monitor as well? How about Windows OS disc? Well, here's a list that'll fall under $1K...

HDD+PSU Combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.668435
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.656836...comes with 2 free games (Dirt 3 by coupon & Shogun)

OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 ....if you are a student, then you can get Win 7 Pro for $30 http://www.microsoft.com/student/en/us/windows/buynow/default.aspx

If/When you decide to overclock the CPU, then get this CPU Cooler down the road: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-Sleeve-RR-B10-212P-G1/dp/B002G1YPH0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1309160536&sr=8-1

The 2500K is a monster overclocker and is one of the best CPUs in the market right now....the other being the 2600K. For games, the 2500K and 2600K are pretty much identical performing.
