Meh Movies that Turned Out to Be Good.

Post » Tue Jun 28, 2011 8:42 pm

You ever just see a movie you never heard of or know a popular movie but don't believe the hype to it?

List them here. Movies afterwards you were like, thats pretty darn good.

I'll start off with one: Black Plague

This was suggested by my dad, and hes a bit of an action movie watcher, but he says watch this movie. I look at the cover and see a corpsey looking girl and a guy with a sword.
My first impression was just some hastily created scriptabout a zombie apocalypse action flick set in the 1300s. I thought sure i'll watch it for the action scenes or whatever. I had never seen the trailers(if it had any) when it came out in 2010.

But overall i was surprised by the movie, I liked the story even thoguh it was sad and very dark, it showed a clear message of conflict and religion.

Only problem I had with it was that one of the characters i can't stop thinknig is Boromir because its the exact same character fro Jackson's Lord of the Rings. He does a good job but i keep thinknig him Boromir.

Any movies where you were like huh, or wow, that was actually alot deeper or better in general than you thought it would be?

Kind of the other way around actually, I was "meh" about watching Pandorum after reading reviews but it turned out to be a pretty good movie IMO. Critics and their ivory chairs be damned.

I was the same way about Black Death, skeptical, but it wasn't bad at all.

The Royal Tenenbaums. I don't remember seeing anything about it back when it first came out (though I was hardly paying attention back then) and when I stumbled across it a few years ago I picked it up mostly because I was bored. Aside from the brilliant Bill Murray there isn't anyone starring that I'd go out of my way to see, so expectations were low.

Anyway, it ended up being one of my favorite films and I've probably watched it at least ten times now.

Pitch Black. "Oh great, another Science Fiction alien movie..."

Ninety minutes later

"Holy [censored], best movie ever!"

The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Lots of people loved it, but I had always assumed it was because it was perhaps a "cool thing" to like. Something that was so bad that people liked because it was so bad.

I finally sat down and watched it. I now own at least 7 different versions of the movie, and have an extensive collection of lingerie.

I actually just watched one last night. Called One Week. Never heard of it before, never seen it before, only found it because it was randomly in one of those Amazon junk mails trying to sell me DVDs. Saw the motorcycle and jumped on Netflix.

That was probably the worst movie that I've ever seen and that I managed to watch all of it without turning it off - not because it had any redeeming qualities mind you. :P I only watched because people here suggested it.

Although mamagato told me you have to watch it in a special kind of cinema, where people dress up and throw things around. :P

It truly is one hell of an experience. Everyone dressed up as characters from the movie, or in random lingerie, singing along with it, standing up front to dance along with the time-warp. Great stuff.

In Melbourne they used to have that, only for the blues brothers

Shrek Forever After. I totally missed the third movie and didn't really like the second...but the fourth one is actually really good.

Donnie Darko. 'Stranger in rabbit suit tells boy the world is going to end in a few days' is all I knew in advance.
