I love the idea of starting your own shop, or somehow running businesses. Not that I think you'd want to run them directly as it'd be too much hassle (remember the taxi/pizza missions in GTA? urgh), but perhaps to buy an existing business, say in Westside, Freeside, Novac, etc and let it passively generate income. Perhaps instead of selling your surplus as normal you could "give" it to the store, which would sell it on consignment and give you a greater value than you'd normally get from Barter but with a delay of a couple of days. Side quests could involve dealing with competitors, setting up trade routes (say with those roaming merchants) and expanding your inventory. The only problem is that you normally end up with so many caps you hardly need another source of income (same thing as happens in GTA).
Ok, pipe dreams aside and back on-topic, I actually don't like the idea of leading a chapter of the BoS, running an Enclave base, becoming NCR pres, the new Caesar, etc. Why? Have you seen how McNamara spends his days? What about Caesar, sitting on his throne day in, day out. Dull dull dull. I think to keep the player involved in action-oriented events you need to stay at a low rank, some form of squad leader at the most. Otherwise, just papercraft yourself an Enclave Officer's cap and stay late at the office
