So I just drank some crazy tea, and my screen is all psychedelic, and I'm wondering what would happen if I didn't complete the quest and just kept doing the main storyline? Would I go back to the mojave with this crazy effect?

When you do the final Quest for Honest Hearts all other side-quests are failed. The failure of the quest would remove the effect.
