How did you develop your tastes of media?

Hey guys, I just thought we should discuss something pretty interesting - how you developed your tastes in things. Mostly media, art. Did you grow up with your favorite band? Friends tell you? Hear it on the radio? Please, do share.

I dunno

Rock bands just tasted good and I liked to wash them down with a nice cold action movie.

I've also tasted video games though I don't like the FPS flavor very much.

My dad is the one that really got me into music played lots of Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc
TV eh I dont watch alot of TV
My grandfather got me into Horror movies we'd watch any horror movie no matter how cheesy mostly for laughs.
Video games that was my own discovery started with Sonic and Mario games that belonged to my grandfather then moved eventually got my own N64 when it came out and went from that.

I'm honestly not sure how I came to develop my tastes in media. Just a few years ago I hardly ever listened to music. However, now I listen to selections from nearly every genre, I listen to everything ranging from pop to rap. I've always been a huge fan of gritty crime movies and shows, especially ones involving organized crime. That may stem from me coming from an Italian family and my dad's taste in movies.

surroundings. then select what looks, feels, reads or feels like it is in line with my personal preference, convictions, believes or just taste for specific something. also, sometimes seemingly random purchases of CD based on hearing just one song off it or a game simply because it is a part of genre and looks decent and then it can grow into loyalty to artist, franchise, whatever.

I don't quite know how I got to loving classic rock, because none of my friends or family like the music I listen to at all. I'm always going to the concerts alone.

My favorite band is Boston, and actually it was my boss on my construction job in high school who first played me some of their music. I kept their tapes in my truck, and played them all the time.

With music, I think I found most of the bands I like via the internet.
Thinking about it, I remember going to my cousins friends house and we listened to a compilation CD, there were a few songs I liked on there, so I went out and got it. There were 3 songs my sister and I loved, so she jumped on the internet and looked them up. I kept on researching and am constantly finding new bands that I like and sharing them with my sister, I think thats why we have similar tastes in music.a

Music I research myself. It's a very personal thing, and I tend to be very picky, but when I do find a band that I like I try to listen to them as much as I can. There is a certain thing that some bands have to where I will love almost everything they do, which is probably why I'm so picky. I rarely ever listen to a band that I like just 1 or 2 songs from.

As for movies, it's kind of meh. My spectrum is very broad, but it's probably because I don't watch a lot of movies anyways.

My friends got me into rock music,
My uncle (and partially my dad) got me into games at a young age,
I just grew up with TV,
I've never really bothered with films much.
